Starsoftheclock Sunday 3rd May 2026 Selections And Review

3rd May, 2026 @ 9:28am

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Sandscreendeliverd (104) – The selection travelled well at the front and looked the likely winner as he led over a furlong out. Unfortunately, he was headed in the final strides. There should be another turf win in him although he couldn’t match his all-weather latest. Result 2nd 15/2 adv….15/2 SP.

1pt win Bow Echo (116) – An outstanding performance from the selection who recorded the best timefigure I have awarded a 2000 Guineas winner in five years since Poetic Flare’s 2021 victory which was 2 lengths per mile faster. Reported to have made no physical progress from two to three by ITV Racing’s paddock expert….Billy Loughnane’s mount raced comfortably in rear and always looked the winner as he made headway over two furlongs from home before leading over a furlong out and clearing 2.75 lengths away from Gstaad (113). The drift in the betting was bewildering for clock watchers as his Royal Lodge performance over course and distance ticked all the boxes. Let’s hope he can go on to become one of the great milers. Result 1st 4/1 adv…9/2 SP.

1pt win Thesecretadversary (104) – This was a long way below his Leopardstown performance and he threw his chances away early on by refusing to settle. It was remarkable that he still only failed to find the frame (a lot of firms were paying four places) by a quarter of a length.

1pt win Sovereign Spell (106) – It looked like 16 days wasn’t enough of a break since his last race as he found nothing when asked for his effort a furlong from home. This will go down as a poor training effort from connections.

Today’s Advice

OH CECELIA (5f 110y Lst) – Following 19mm of rain overnight at Cork the going has changed to Soft (Soft to Heavy in places) with a few more millimetres forecast. This brings this mud-loving filly into contention as the short priced favourite Havana Anna has been withdrawn. She had looked a Class 4 contender early on this season but that all changed following her 3.25 length romp over 5f at today’s venue on a similar soft surface last time out. I awarded her a (113) timefigure and if she is in the same mood today it will take a good one to lower her colours. She raced prominently under Billy Lee on that occasion and led under two furlongs from home before recording a comfortable win. The handicapper could only put her up 10lb for today’s (3.05) Cork and although she might look outclassed on the ratings a reproduction of her latest performance under these conditions could make a lot of her “sexy” rivals look inferior. Ronan Whelan takes over the ride and he will be looking for his fourth winner since April having won on Chirac, Tim Toe and Wild Bessie.
