Today’s Advice
VIVA CHALEUR/MACANESE MASTER (6f Hcap) – Sha Tin stages an all-weather card on the dirt today and the (12.15) looks a race worth getting involved in with the short price favourite No Other Choice drawn wide once again in stall 10 and also carrying 18lb more in weight than when placing over course and distance back in March. The formline that appeals the most to me is the course and distance matchup from last month between the two selections. The former selection won cosily by 3 lengths while recording a (105) timefigure with both having raced up front from stalls 7 and 8. The winner was slightly below that level next time out when just getting pipped near the finish as an Even money favourite while the runner-up meets him on 7lb better terms this afternoon. With better draws and at backable prices I will be having a small interest in both.
YODA’S CHOICE (9f Hcap) – Apprentice jockey sensation Nichola Yuen has taken Hong Kong by storm lately with her 10lb claim having ridden 77 winners abroad mainly in Australia. She made all aboard Pi Legend on her second Hong Kong ride on the dirt from a wide draw in stall 12 and her current claim looks to be gold dust for punters looking for an edge. She teams up with the selection for this afternoon’s (1.15) Sha Tin who is a likeable front-running type that recorded a career best (107) timefigure last time out over course and distance when just getting headed on the line by Happy Universe. On 13lb better terms today, with a much more favourable draw and little opposition for the lead this looks a great opportunity for the improving five-year-old to record his third victory in Hong Kong.
HICKORY LAD (5f 15y Conditions) – The (1.30) Chester looks a fascinating renewal of the Lily Agnes Stakes with each one of the front four in the betting having won while making all the running last time out. The selection has done best so far on the clock with his (107) timefigure behind Where Love Lives at Thirsk leading the way. A solid (103) on the clock at Musselburgh seven days ago was just as impressive as he only needed to be pushed out under regular pilot Rowan Scott to get the job done. Stall five does make things a little bit tricky today but at the prices on offer I am willing to have a small play on him in the hope that he can find a smooth path round.
LIGHT YEARS GLORY (6f Hcap) – It might look like Nichola Yuen can go back to back in races 4 and 5 today with Tourbillon Golfer drawn nicely in stall 1 for the (1.45) Sha Tin and also installed as the short price favourite in the betting, however, a look a the clock tells us a different story. I awarded the four-year-old a (102.62) timefigure last month when he tried to make all the running over course and distance while carrying the same weight as today’s. He will need to find another length or two to stave off the Hugh Bowman challenge on the selection whom I awarded a (104.20) timefigure when last seen taking the bronze medal behind Target Audience over course and distance. That puts the Cody Mo trained four-year-old at the top of the timefigure charts for today’s contest and if he can reproduce that effort he should go close today.
BULL ATTITUDE (8f 55y Hcap) – The favourite for today’s (2.15) Sha Tin may be worth siding with considering his course and distance form with Blossomy from 17 days ago looks the strongest on offer on today’s surface. He was closing down that rival (whom he meets on 6lb better terms today) having had to challenge very wide into the straight and just failed by three quarters of a length. A better draw in stall 3 should hopefully provide a smoother trip and if he can show up in the same form he looks to have a sound chance at the weights.
