Starsoftheclock Thursday 7th May 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

A day where the prices were cut as the blog was being written forcing me to switch from each way to win on a few bets which left little margin for error…

0.5pt e/way Viva Chaleur (99) – The selection failed by a neck to close down the more positively ridden winner who enjoyed a beautiful trip on the rail. It was still a decent effort considering his wide trip. Result 2nd 9/2 adv…11/5f SP.

0.5pt e/way Macanese Master (97) – Ethan Brown had to use up too much petrol early on to race prominently out wide and was collared in the home straight for the bronze medal. Another race showing the benefit of racing prominently on the inside.

1pt e/way Yoda’s Choice (109) – A career best performance from the selection who took full advantage of his rider’s 10lb claim. He was untroubled up front and Nichola Yuen got the fractions right to hold off Firefoot (108) by a length and a quarter at the line. Result 1st 10/3 adv…33\10 SP.

1pt win Hickory Lad (104) – An early morning move on this one forced a win bet which made things more difficult. He still performed with credit from his wide draw in stall 5 but the winner proved too strong from the plum draw holding him off by a length and a quarter.

2pts win Light Years Glory (101) – The price moved on this one forcing a win bet on the selection. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reproduce his recent effort on the clock and weakened out of the battle for the win in the home straight coming home in third place beaten three quarters of a length.

1pt win Bull Attitude (104) – Everything looked to be going to plan during the race as the leaders set a strong pace for the selection to aim at. Unfortunately, jockey Lyle Hewitson tried to force his mount through a non-existent gap two furlongs out causing the selection to stumble badly and losing all of his momentum. He could manage only fourth place beaten 4 lengths after this.

Today’s Advice

FOZZIE (7f 219y Novice) – Song Of The Clouds put in a decent display on career debut to finish runner-up to Synchronicity over 7f at Newbury. I am happy to oppose her at such sort odds and the selection produced a career best (105) timefigure last time out at Thirsk when attempting to make all on the far side of the track. The dam was a mile winner so I am hoping that the step up in trip should suit for today’s (4.40) Redcar and he looks worth an interest in keeping the favourite honest.

ROARING RALPH (8f 13y Hcap) – Connections of this six-year-old have sorted out his issues this year as he looked a difficult horse to get a tune out of in the past. He has reeled off a hat-trick over course and distance and although he has been away from the track for 40 days this looks a weak enough contest if he is fighting fit for tonight’s (6.30) Southwell. His recent timefigures have indicated that there is still plenty of mileage in him and he has won from a 5lb higher mark in the past. Avatar Jet looks his main danger and he might enjoy his own way out in front again. I am just wondering if he has the consistency to reproduce his latest victory where he looked a bit of a reluctant winner.

LOOKS FANTASTIC (7f Hcap) – The (6.50) Redcar looks an interesting contest given that favourite Vince Le Prince appeared to have everything go his way last time out at Catterick but looked a soft touch in the finish. It will be interesting to see how Lord Capulet performs given his all-weather form, but I am willing to give this Mick Appleby course and distance winner another chance to reproduce his first career victory from last time out. He looks a nice big type that raced prominently the last day and kept on well all the way to the line for a length and a quarter victory. Rated 11b higher in the past by the handicapper if anybody can put him on the right track once again it will be the Rutland trainer.
