Starsoftheclock Saturday 9th May 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Albaydaa (106) – The selection recorded a 1 length per mile inferior time to her latest effort at the weights. She took up the running a furlong from home but was put in her place by the winner. Better will be needed going forward. Result 2nd 10/3 adv…3/1 SP.

0.5pt e/way Ay Up Duck (101) – A below par effort from the selection on turf and it looks like the best will be seen from him back on the sand. He raced in touch of the leaders but weakened over a furlong out into eight place beaten 6.75 lengths.

1pt e/way Arry Up (83) – A shocking display from the selection who found absolutely nothing when asked to quicken from the front just under three furlongs out eventually coming home a well beaten last. I wouldn’t use the ground as an excuse as it looked perfect on times. This was too bad to be true….

Today’s Advice

SILVER STATE (8f Hcap) – This three-year-old was installed as favourite for the (3.05) Haydock on the back of two recent turf wins over the mile at Bath and Doncaster. The Bath victory was the most impressive on the clock as he made all the running to record a (109) timefigure bolting up by 4 lengths from the George Boughey trained Armstrong. The track had taken a decent amount of rain on the day and he looked to appreciate the Good to Soft surface. Not as impressive next time out when recording a (104) timefigure with the ground riding Good to Firm (Good in places) he still did enough to fend off the Ed Bethell trained Welbury by just over a length. With today’s going advertised as Good with a few millimetres of rain forecast he looks like he should land somewhere in the middle of those performances.

The handicapper has raised him 5lb for his latest win, and with Rose Dawes back on board, he has drifted to a backable price for today’s contest. Main opposition looks to come from the Ed Walker trained Jeddaal who broke his maiden tag at Catterick over 7f most recently when racing prominently before taking up the running over a furlong from home to score by just under 2 lengths from yesterday’s 1/16 maiden winner Red Spells Danger. A decent (106) timefigure was recorded for his latest win and the son of Lope De Vega should appreciate the step up to today’s trip. He has been backed into favouritism overnight but at the prices on offer I will have a sporting interest on the Jack Channon trained gelding.

MYAL (7f Listed) – Lake Forest will be all the rage for today’s (3.40) Haydock considering he has won in much higher grade in the past. However, he can be a tricky character to land on the line at the right time, and at the prices I am happy to take him on with the tough as nails Steph Hollinshead trained five-year-old. Starting out from a lowly handicap mark of 69 two years ago he has proven to be a real star for connections. The prominent racer rattled off a four-timer in 2024 and another three wins has seen his rating rise a total of 38lbs since he broke his maiden. Last time out he saw off Poet Master by a half length while giving him 4lbs in taking the Michael Foster Conditions Stakes at Thirsk. A (110) timefigure was a career best at the weights and it is worth noting that he is an unbeaten 3-3 at today’s venue. Jockey David Allan has already won twice on him and he looks worth an interest at the prices on offer this morning.
