Starsoftheclock Saturday 23rd May 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Involvement (104) – La Botte leading at 31mph was not on my bingo card for this race….With UK racing becoming more and more like French racing everyday the leaders went a mediocre pace which did not suit the hold up performers. The selection looked unlucky closing from the rear and recorded the fastest final furlong of the entire field. He missed the bronze medal by a short head at the line and connections can consider themselves very unlucky not to hit the frame.

1pt e/way Dream Composer (106) – The selection didn’t have the early pace to race prominently and had to be switched to the near side rail to get a run inside the final furlong. He was flying home at the finish and was beaten a head for third place. Another unlucky performer on the day. It looks like 6f could be worth a go soon.

Today’s Advice

TRUSTYOURINSTINCT (12f Lstd) – With half of today’s field for the (1.55) Curragh having their seasonal turf debut this looks a good opportunity for last year’s winner to visit the winner’s enclosure again. His three races from last season on Good going from the 5th May to the 28th June look rock solid on the clock with a 4 length win in this race last year and a (113) timefigure looking very strong form. He was given a quiet introduction on a Soft surface over 10f at today’s venue last time out coming home in his own time in 7th place beaten just over 7 lengths. With the ground advertised as Good to Yielding and a bright sunny day ahead conditions should be just right for the likeable six-year-old.

Champion jockey Dylan Brown McMonagle has sided with the foreign import Nyra who will be having seasonal debut and if the JP McManus trained selection is in the same form as when winning this race last season he should be very hard to beat.

CLOUD SEEKER (10f Hcap) – The selection finished runner-up to another of today’s rivals Apercu in this race last season and is 4lb worse off at the weights for today’s (2.30) Curragh. However, with a better draw today in stall five and the fact that the selection has improved since then it may be worth having a sporting interest in the five-year-old who has looked a bit unlucky this winter when racing in Bahrain. The track at Sakhir looked a shade sharp for the prominent racing son of Masar on more than one occasion and he should appreciate the return today’s venue where he finished runner-up twice last season. He does have a decent record fresh so the 93 day absence should not be an inconvenience and at the prices on offer he looks a shade overpriced considering his solid profile.

MOSCOW POWER (7f Hcap) – The (3.50) York looks an interesting three-year-old contest and the selection sits at the top of the timefigure charts with his recent third place finish over 6f at Ascot behind Secret Santa leading the way. On that occasion he was drawn on the far side of the track and was switched all the way over to the near side before keeping on well at the finish beaten just under 4 lengths by the mightily impressive winner. A (107) timefigure reads very well in the context of today’s race and the step up in trip looks the right move for the son of Sergei Prokofiev. The handicapper has left him alone for that performance and jockey George Wood is back on board once again with a decent draw in stall 2 for today’s contest. The Mick Appleby stable has been hitting the crossbar quite a bit this month and it would be a nice big race Saturday winner for connections.

SARGENT DENNIS (6f 12y Hcap) – The (7.00) Windsor sees a rematch between the selection and Marengo Storm from the all-weather at Kempton where the Richard Hughes trained rival proved 2.75 lengths too strong. The runner-up has since won nicely over course and distance while recording a (105) timefigure and with a 6lb pull at the weights and his proven ability on tonight’s surface he may give the favourite more of a fight tonight. Marengo Storm won impressively last time out but I wonder if he will be as effective on turf considering his family has a lot of all-weather performers in it and his action looked to suit that surface very much the last day. At the prices on offer I am happy to go with the proven turf form of the Jack Channon trained three-year-old.
