BORJINA/VOLENDAM (7f Hcap) – Eleven contestants go to post for the (3.42) Wetherby, at the time of writing, and the favourite Nanoscience looks a short enough price on what she has achieved so far. The clock hasn’t been tested yet by the three-year-old filly and while there may be more to come, I can let her win at the prices on offer. The former selection looks a more reasonable price and also looks like she has shown a bit more when she took her novice contest over 7f at Catterick by 2 lengths. The (94) timefigure is also low but it should be noted that her performance ties in well with previous course and distance winner Entwistle trained by Karl Burke in 2021 who managed to finish in third place in a (0-85) handicap from an 8lb higher mark. Suffice to say she starts out her handicap career on a very attractive mark, providing she can come forward again today.
The latter selection is a bit of an experimental one considering she is dropping back in trip from a mile. The faster pace may actually suit her better and she looked like she bumped into one last time out at Nottingham when finishing runner-up to Wondrous Light. The faster they go up front the better for her and it will be interesting to see how she fares against some of these lightly raced rivals.
INSPIRED (7f Hcap) – The favourite for today’s (4.42) Wetherby has been well found by the market and he went into a lot of notebooks following a luckless trip at York last time out over 7f. He was denied a clear run on many occasions having came across from his wide draw in stall 18 on the day, and finished full of running at the finish 2 lengths back in third place. The handicapper has kindly dropped him a pound, and from a decent draw in stall 5 today he looks the one they all have to beat. The Karl Burke stable have had a bumper May with 18 winners and connections will be looking to get June off to a decent start with this son of Dubawi.
