Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Borjina (91) – It looked like connections had a different day planned for this filly following a 43 day break. She reared as the stalls opened and was keen out the back of the field off a slow pace before weakening into 7th place beaten 4.5 lengths. A performance to put a line through.

0.5pt e/way Volendam (94) – A decent effort in a slowly run race over a trip on the short side. She could only manage 5th place beaten 2 lengths and better will be seen back at a mile.

2pts win Inspired (103) – The going was advertised as Good (Good to Firm in places) with 3mm of rain due according to the BHA website on the morning of the race. Unfortunately, no rain materialised and the Clerk Of The Course changed the going to Good To Firm (Good in places). This race was run in a course record time and the winning times on the day were almost 14 lengths per mile faster than standard. No Good ground anywhere to be seen………The selection was an eye-catcher on well watered Good (Good to Firm in places) ground at York which was riding 4 lengths per mile slow and fast conditions would be of no use to him (York always do an excellent job watering their track). The Clerk Of The Course has let conditions get away from him on this occasion but I am surprised connections have let the horse run on the day. The 11/8 favourite made headway over a furlong from home but looked like a “drunken sailor” when asked to quicken on the fast ground. He could only manage 4th place beaten 2.5 lengths. An unprofessional approach from all connected with the track and horse and it was noted that 6 horses were withdrawn on the day due to the going.

I was happy to leave today to just the three selectiions already advised on Wednesday.
