Today’s Advice

There were a couple that were borderline selections today but I was happy to let the racing pass in the end. I do like one for tomorrow at Leopardstown.

TOKENOMICS (8f Gp3) – The Group 3 Desmond Stakes over the mile at (6.00) Leopardstown tomorrow evening looks worth an interest considering the favourite Sparran Nua is taking a massive drop in distance from last time out when finishing in third place over 12f at The Curragh in The Irish Oaks. She kept on well at the finish after meeting trouble in running and although she looks the class act of the field at the prices there could be a bit of value elsewhere as she might find things happening a shade too quickly for her.

Audience has found a bit of form recently over 7f and ran a solid race last time out at The Curragh when finishing 2nd beaten 2 lengths by Power Blue in the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes. The step up to a mile would not be in his favour, and most of his best form is over the shorter distance. With questions about the recent form of the three-year-olds Needle Match, Al Haarith and Isaac Newton and with their position in the market looking a bit closer to the favourite than I would have liked, I landed on the David Marnane trained selection who looked a couple of points above where he should be in the betting. He finished in last place over the mile in the Listed Celebration Stakes at The Curragh beaten 2.75 lengths by Zodiac Bear at the end of June, but he can easily be forgiven that performance. The winner dictated a farcical pace on the day and Luke McAteer’s mount raced far too keenly while also not getting a clear run through two furlongs from home. His two previous efforts over course and distance may not look the strongest regarding the performance of the beaten horses since but the (111) timefigure for both races put him right up there with the best of what his main rivals have been producing at their best. He only found Catalina Delcarpio too strong in the Listed Amethyst Stakes back in May over course and distance having taken up the running inside the final furlong, and judging by his latest performances there could well be more improvement in him going forward. At the prices on offer he looked worth a sporting interest considering the make-up of the race.
