Weekend Review
0.75pt e/way Unchartedterritory (102) – A solid enough performance from the selection who had every chance in the home straight, having raced in touch of the leaders, but found one a length and a quarter too strong. He took up the running over a furlong from home but wandered around a bit when asked to go and win his race. He should return to the winner’s enclosure again this Autumn. Result 2nd 11/2 adv…6/1 SP (Rule 4 20p)
2pts win Rosario (105) – The race went to plan as the selection came through from the rear to take up the running inside the final furlong and hold on for a short head win. Result 1st 5/2 adv…6\5F SP (Rule 4 35p)
1pt e/way Bayside View (99) – 23mm of rain the day before was unexpected, which turned the ground to Soft, and would not have been my preferred going. Unfortunately, connections wanted to have a go on the different ground and the selection never looked at home on it. She raced keenly in rear and never looked dangerous coming home in sixth place beaten 5 lengths.
1pt e/way Treble
Today’s Advice
JOGA BONITA (7f 94y) – The (4.50) Roscommon looks an interesting contest considering those at the head of the market haven’t been getting the job done lately. Short priced favourite Ruler’s Control has been running in better grade than today’s contest, but the application of a first-time tongue tie last time out in a Group 2 at Goodwood might indicate that connections have been a bit disappointed with him lately. He has been underperforming on the clock his last two races compared to his career debut win over Force Noir over 5f at The Curragh, and at the prices I was happy to land on the selection.
His (107) timefigure last time out when making all over 7f at Galway on a Yielding to Soft surface leads today’s field, and with a decent draw in stall 2, a reproduction of that effort could make him difficult to reel in. He appreciated the application of first-time cheekpieces on the day and took his maiden by 3.5 lengths from the Joseph O’Brien trained Otherworldly. The fourth placed finisher Ischgl has been put in as favourite for today’s (2.20) Chepstow, and it would be a nice boost for the form if he could win that contest with some authority.
The Aidan O’Brien trained South Dakota recorded a (103) timefigure when finishing just over 5 lengths behind Livenka at Naas and she is still looking to find the winner’s enclosure after four attempts.
NATHEMA (12f 17y Hcap) – This Andrew Slattery trained three-year-old filly also showed her first piece of worthwhile form last time out over 12f at Tramore when finishing a length and a quarter runner-up behind stablemate Preparations. She raced prominently from her low draw on that occasion, while wearing first-time cheekpieces, and a reproduction of that effort should see her in with a shout at the business end of tonight’s (7.55) Roscommon. A decent draw in stall 3 should help her cause and with plenty of her dangers drawn high she could enjoy a better trip.
There are a couple of unexposed types in Priorstown and Minella Buoy at the head of the market, but the selection has already shown decent form under tonight’s conditions.
