Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Redemption Road (89) – The selection was reported to have raced too keen by jockey Hector Crouch. He pulled hard in rear and looped the field before weakening over two furlongs out finishing last beaten 26 lengths.

1pt e/way Victory Ace (109) – The selection improved again on the clock and found only one too good who started from a more forward position. He made good headway from two furlongs out having raced in rear and kept on well into second place beaten a length. Result 2nd 11/2, 5/1 adv..6/1 SP.

0.75pt e/way In The Breeze (105) – A solid enough effort from the selection to chase home the well handicapped favourite Aegean Prince (109). He left his York form behind as he did best of the rest coming home in second place but well beaten by 7.5 lengths. He raced in rear as he normally does and kept on best of the chasing pack. He should continue to perform with credit on softer surfaces this Autumn. Result 2nd 14/1, 12/1 adv…12/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

ALPHA CAPTURE (7f 192y Hcap) – The (5.00) York looks to have the right two at the head of the market for this apprentice handicap. Favourite Inspired has been running well having finally got his head in front at Hamilton back in July. He appreciated the softer conditions last time out at Goodwood when coming home a length too good for Oliver Show while recording a (107) timefigure. The handicapper has put him up 5lb and connections have booked 3lb apprentice Toby Moore to offset some of that increase. He looks the right price at the head of the market, and I am willing to give the selection another chance stepping up in distance.

He has been consistently putting in (109) timefigures over 7f this summer and finished runner-up last time out behind Glenfinnan at Beverley in a strongly run race. A previous winner over the mile he should appreciate the step up in trip today and although the handicapper has raised him 2lb for his latest performance connections have also offset some of the increase by booking 3lb apprentice Donagh Murphy. The young pilot has opened his account already this month aboard the Charlie Clover trained Federal Envoy at Wolverhampton following on from riding 3 winners in August.

The selection has looked a decent acquisition for the Roger Fell stable this season considering he was rated 19lb higher than today’s mark back in 2023 for the William Haggas stable. The sixth and eight place finishers have since come out and won from his latest race (Homestrait and Tattie Bogle) and if he can enjoy a decent trip round from the inside draw today he should go close.
