Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Alpha Capture (101) – The selection raced too keen early doors and didn’t enjoy a smooth enough passage round on the inside. He looked to face a difficult task turning in on the first two home, who both raced prominently, and could only manage a disappointing 11th beaten 9.75 lengths. He may be worth another chance in a race run more to suit.

Today’s Advice

ARNAZ (6f Hcap) – This five-year-old has been revitalised by trainer Mark Loughnane following wind surgery this summer. He returned to the winner’s enclosure last month over 6f at Chepstow, for the first time in over 2 years, when making all the running to take a Class 6 contest by 2.25 lengths under today’s 7lb claimer Hope Regan. He repeated the dose next time out over course and distance before looking a shade unlucky last time out at Brighton when fluffing the start before running on well at the finish to be beaten just over a length in sixth place. The runner-up Diomed Spirit has come out and won since and the handicapper has kindly dropped him a pound in the ratings for today’s (2.12) Windsor.

There is an element of bingo balls with these sprint races but with the selection still rated 8lb lower than when trained by Ed Walker and the apprentice taking another 7lb off his back he looks worth a small interest to continue his good recent form.
