Starsoftheclock Tuesday 8th September 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Arnaz (98) – The selection was a long way off his two latest performances on the clock. He made his way to the front on the outside over two furlongs from home before weakening inside the final furlong. He missed the frame by a quarter of a length coming home in 5th place. These were the quickest conditions he has faced with the straight course riding 12 lengths per mile faster than standard. With a round action and being by Havana Grey I might give him another chance on a softer surface.

Today’s Advice

DOWN THE GLEN (8f 98y Hcap) – Short price favourite Cladach and Nazario reoppose again in today’s (4.53) Galway having finished third and fourth behind Solana Beach just 7 days ago at Gowran Park on a Yielding (Soft in places) surface. I had the ground just 10 lengths per mile slower than standard on the day and conditions look a bit softer today.

The formline that interested me more was the course and distance rematch between Jp’s Express and the selection from the end of July. Conditions were described as Yielding to Soft on the day, but I had the track riding close to 30 lengths per mile slower than standard. The selection was drawn in the car park that day in stall 17 and ran a lovely race having been stuck out wide all the way round. He led briefly in the home straight and just gave best to the winner in the finish eventually finishing in third place beaten three quarters of a length. With a 3lb turnaround at the weights, and his old rival drawn much worse today, I fancy the likeable grey to go much closer on ground described as Soft (Heavy in places) following 9mm of rain overnight.

Shane Foley is back on board again today and the selection looks worth an interest at the prices considering the favourite may find this race coming a bit too soon.

ZADAWA (12f Mdn) – The (7.30) Galway looks a two horse race on what has been achieved on the clock so far. The short priced favourite Porters Corner was just beaten by the smallest of margins last time out over course and distance by Stellar Moment who finished runner-up next time out in a handicap off 78 at Roscommon. I awarded the Paddy Twomey trained three-year-old a (110) timefigure last time out and she looks to have a solid chance today.

The selection also finished runner-up last time out when sporting a first-time hood beaten three quarters of a length by Garden Party over 10f at Cork having led over a furlong from home and was just worried out of it. With 9mm of rain overnight and the going now described as Soft (Heavy in places) she does have to prove she can handle these conditions. She is from a decent Aga Khan family that did handle soft conditions, and she does show a decent bit of knee action, so taking all that into consideration she looks worth a sporting interest at the prices.
