Yesterday’s Review
2pts e/way Bourbon Blues (104) – A slowly run contest where the selection raced in last place and had it all to do when the pace quickened in the straight. He showed himself to be the best horse on the day, as he passed every contestant down the outside, to get up for the victory by a head. Remarkably, he drifted from 9/2 to 7/1 at the off despite having what looked like the best recent form of the field. A nice bonus for those who kept the faith and were able to avail of Best Odds Guaranteed. Result 1st 9/2 adv….7/1 SP.
Today’s Advice
CARRY THE FLAG/CROWNBREAKER (5f Gp2) – The former selection’s opening five furlong salvo of (56.14 secs) at Deauville in the Group 1 Prix Morny had the entire field looking in trouble and would have received a (117) timefigure if the race were run over 1000 metres. Only the super talented Senorita Bonita could find a fast enough final furlong to get on top of the speedy son of No Nay Never at the line. As we know in these sprints the speed with which the contestants exit the stalls varies from race to race, but if Ryan Moore’s mount can reproduce that effort in today’s (2.25) Doncaster he could be difficult to peg back.
The short price favourite Pershaada has yet to reproduce her Queen Mary Stakes (110) timefigure, but should appreciate the return to a faster surface today, having disappointed in the Nunthorpe behind Bacio. She looks priced a bit short for my liking and the latter selection’s (112) timefigure in the Prix Yacowlef when beating Drazinda by a length should not be forgotten too quickly. The form has been franked since by the runner-up in a Group 3 and excuses can be made for her last two performances.
She stumbled during the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood when the pace was hotting up at halfway, and failed to reproduce her strong French form when finishing down the field. She should appreciate the return to the minimum trip on a decent surface having finished in midfield on a soft surface over 6f at York.
TUMISHI (6f Nursery) – This James Fanshawe trained juvenile holds my top timefigure of (102) when taking his maiden at Ffos Las over 6f. The son of Havana Grey had to wait for a clear run on the rail over two furlongs from home before getting on top near the finish. He starts his handicap career off a mark that may give room for a little improvement, and at a double figure price looks worth a small interest in a race where plenty look exposed enough at the moment.
Favourite Launch Sequence has the first time cheekpieces applied having looked a bit of a reluctant hero the last twice. His Goodwood form has been boosted by Final Objective and Washington Royale since, and followers will be willing to give him another chance back on a sounder surface. Super Tuscan looked a shade unlucky last time out when recording a (99) timefigure behind Henley On Thames, but I’m still to be convinced about the strength of that race.

0.5pt e/way Crownbreaker (20/1 Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral) 2.25 Doncaster
