Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Leannespour (98) – The selection blew the start and could only keep on into 7th place beaten 4.5 lengths. This was below her performance from last week and it’s possible this race came too soon.
1pt e/way Storm Eric (101) – A solid enough effort from the selection who kept on from midfield into 3rd place beaten just 1.5 lengths. Result 3rd 13/2 adv…4/1 SP.
1pt e/way Flowstate (96) – The anticipated contested pace never materialised as the winner Lord Capulet (104) had his own way out in front. The race was not run to suit the selection who raced keen early on and weakened into 6th place beaten 7 lengths at the finish. There should be another race in him when there is more pace on up front.
Today’s Advice
ROUSING ENCORE (6f Hcap) – The (3.15) Haydock has cut up a bit this morning following yesterday’s meeting which somehow had the words Good in the going description. Conditions were more like Heavy by the time the last race was run and this is another example of why a new system for going description is badly needed in the UK. The clerk wrote that the ground walked faster than it rode on the BHA website showing the need for all tracks to have an in-house horse and jockey which can test the track before the ground is advertised.
With the ground described as Heavy (Soft in places) that will suit the selection fine who was a winner on Soft going at Ayr this time last year and ran a fine race behind Eye of Dubai last week over 6f also at the same venue. The handicapper has raised him 3lb but providing he is in the same form he should be involved in the finish from a decent draw in stall 11. The favourite Storm Force has been declared a non-runner, and although he was never going to like today’s conditions, it is one less contender to worry about.
James Sullivan rides the hold-up performer and there should be a bit of pace t aim at from Miraculous and Angel Gabriel.
GAVRIEL (9f Hcap) – The (3.40) Newmarket Cambridgeshire doesn’t look the strongest of renewals and the most unexposed of all the contestants may be the way to go. The John & Thady Gosden trained three-year old is difficult to get a grip on as he has just four races under his belt. Last time out he won nicely in a very slowly run race over 10f at Ascot by a length and three quarters from the Jane Chapple-Hyam trained Balzac who has won at Newbury since.
The selection raced in rear on that occasion but also raced prominently the time before when returning from a 343 day break at Kempton over the mile. He didn’t get the clearest of runs through that night but did enough when hitting the front over a furlong out to show that he is versatile regards distance and style of racing. Most of the pace is drawn low for today’s race and we will be hoping that Urban Lion in stall 22 can do a bit of the work out front for the selection. Regular pilot Robert Havlin is on board once again and he will likely need to be ridden a bit more forward today the way the race shapes up.
He has been installed as favourite for today’s race which is fair enough considering he has only been raised 4lb for his latest victory and he looks worthy of at least a rating in the 100s going forward.
BAYSIDE VIEW (7f Goffs Million 2yo) – This juvenile filly disappointed on Soft going at Goodwood last time out and with conditions described as Yielding on the straight course yesterday with a dry 24 hours ahead I am hoping it can dry out to at least Good to Yielding. This contest does look competitive as usual but there does appear to be plenty of pace on which should suit the daughter of Bayside Boy.
Trean, Dorigo, Carry The Flag and Blessed Voyager enjoy going forward and that should set up the contest nicely for the hold-up performers. The selection showed herself to be a very talented performer over 7f at Sandown back in July when she blew the start and made a sweeping move on the outside of the field to go down by just a neck at the line behind Aperoll in a Listed fillies contest. The (107) timefigure puts her at the top of the charts for today’s contest and while she was a shade disappointing last time out, despite the ground, I feel she is worth another chance today providing conditions are to her liking.
Ben Coen has been booked for the ride and while he has yet to taste success for the Michael Bell yard he has finished in the first four on 6 occasions from just 9 rides.
1pt e/way Rousing Encore (4/1 Wiilliam Hill, 7/2 Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral 4 places) 3.15 Haydock

0.75pt e/way Bayside View (7/1 Paddy Power, Betvictor, Unibet, Boylesports 4 places) 4.20 Curragh
I will be back for the weekend review on Monday
Best of Luck
