Today’s Advice
ROUSING ENCORE (6f Hcap) – With the ground advertised as Soft (Heavy in places) for today’s card at Doncaster ability to handle conditions will be the number one priority for competitors. The selection falls into that category and should have won last time out over 6f at Haydock but looked to hang his chances away in the finish. Held up, as usual, he came through with what looked a race winning move (despite not getting the clearest of runs) and took up the running near the line before losing out in a head bob. It is possible that race came a bit too quickly for him just 8 days after a previous big effort at Ayr. With almost a month’s rest behind him now he should be ready to get his head in front for the first time in over a year. The handicapper has put him up 2lb for today’s (2.10) Doncaster but he did finish in third place keeping on from a pound lower mark over course and distance last November.
ABERAMA GOLD (6f Hcap) – The (4.30) Doncaster looks an interesting contest given that favourite Big Harry has been very lightly raced as of late and is back out 24 days after a decent win over 6f at Ayr. The form has yet to be franked and I can let him win at today’s odds. The selection is returning from a break having put up a season’s best (108) timefigure over 6f at Pontefract last time out. He has been performing consistently all season and finished third in this race last year from a 9lb higher mark behind Lord Bertie. He has performed well in the past following a break as shown when finishing runner-up to Dakota Gold first time out last season and at the prices on offer may represent a bit of value today.
QUEUE DOS (7f Hcap) – This likeable course and distance wnner also returns from a break and the last time we saw her in similar conditions she recorded a (110) timefigure when finishing fourth over 6f at today’s venue behind the much improved Gold Star Hero. The third place finisher Dyrholaey has also won since and if connections have her ready to do herself justice for tonight’s (8.00) Wolverhampton she could be a well handicapped horse at the moment. Taylor Fisher gets on well with this filly and the partnership have won here before. With a kind draw in stall 4 she may be able to outrun her odds for tonight’s contest.
