Yesterday’s Review

1pt win Pride Of America – Everything went according to plan as Hollie Doyle’s mount got the uncontested lead we expected. It looked like he was beaten inside the final furlong as Ryan Moore’s mount Savvy Victory loomed up travelling well. Full credit to Holly Doyle who had kept a bit up her sleeve on Pride Of America (109) and found more torwards the finish to win by 1L. Result 1st 4/1 adv…4/1 SP

1pt win Call My Bluff – A very good ride from John Egan who made sure the selection maintained his good position all the way round from stall (2). It looked like he had done enough as he overtook long time leader Emiyn over a furlong from home. Unfortunately he couldn’t find another gear and was headed inside the final furlong before being beaten 1L for third.

1.5pts win Two Brothers – A straightforward prominent ride from Adam Farragher from stall (4) aboard the son of Sir Percy. A slowly run race around this track didn’t suit him and hopefully he will be seen to better effect on a more galloping track with a stronger pace. It was a little surprising that the winner Greystoke (102) handled conditions and won his first race on the level in two years.

Today’s Advice

A quiet betting day with just one that was interesting at the prices.

Spirited Guest (6f Handicap) George Margarson’s gelding appears to be a horse that sometimes has his own ideas about the sport. He lost his consistency towards the end of last year in a winless season. This year he seems to have got it back with a second place and a win both on the polytrack at Chelmsford. He seems a little bit overpriced today considering he has some decent form at Ascot in the past. Last year’s fifth place over C/D behind Lethal Nymph when beaten 1.25L in a Class 2 race would give him a chance down in class today. Tom Queally takes the ride again and has been on board for five of his seven career wins. He has ran well from the front in the past as well as being held up, so the lack of pace on today shouldn’t cause too much of a problem. He also has winning form on Soft ground, so ground conditions also look fine. Hopefully today is a going day for the son of Swiss Spirit.
