Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Temper Trap – While the selection didn’t exit the stalls well enough to take a decent position, I wasn’t happy with what I saw during the race. The track may not have seen him at his best either, but he has won races at Ayr (left handed) and Ripon (sharp track) in the past. He has also won making all the running and racing prominently. Overall I felt that connections had a different day in mind for Temper Trap.
Today’s Advice
La Forza (10f 37y Handicap) At first glance it’s always easy to pass over horses that haven’t seen the track in 652 days. However, in this case a little bit of digging into the database has revealed that perhaps this son of Shalaa (IRE) may be worth a small interest at the prices for tonight’s Bath (7.10). His trainer Marcus Tregoning has ran 8 horses who have been away from the track on the Flat for more than 600 days since 30th August 2009. The results have been Aajel (710 days) 1st 9/2 (30th Aug 2009), The Turpinator (662 days) 2nd 11/1 (20th Aug 2021), Baron Slick (925 days) 3rd 5/1 (13th July 2021), and Margub (634 days) 3rd 9/2 with the other 4 unplaced. La Forza was also progressive on the clock in his last three races recording speed figures of (82) (96) and (102). He was also a bit of an eyecatcher when last seen at Ffos Las when short of room up the home straight on the rail, before keeping on. Off a career low handicap mark of (46) and with apprentice Rhiain Ingram taking a further 3lbs off I can’t resist a small interest at double figure odds
Carp Kid (10f 37y Handicap) John Flint’s gelding may appear not to have hit form yet this season following his two efforts at Windsor and Bath but there has been progression on the clock from Race 1 (90) to Race 2 (99), and he warrants a second look in the (7.40) Bath. The latest race was a well beaten ninth but that was in a very strong race on the clock where the first six home were all faster than Par. Recent Staroftheclock Prophet’s Dream, who was highlighted in this column recently, took that race in great style. It may just be that the son of Lope De Vega IRE) is out of form now. However, considering the horse hasn’t raced in a (0-65) Class 6 race in almost two years and races off one of the lowest handicap mark of his life (66) plus excellent apprentice Taylor Fisher takes a further 5lbs off, it is no surprise to see him being backed this morning. A small interest is taken at the current prices. In the same race I can’t resist a similar interest in one of my favourite named horses in training and favourite trainers. The Bill Turner trained Bbob Alula is having his seasonal debut in the same race tonight following a 246 day absence from the track. The son of Showcasing (GB) won on his seasonal debut last year and it has looked on more than one occasion that a step up from a mile is needed. While this track’s 10f may be a little bit on the stiff side at the prices on offer I am happy to have a small play.
