Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Miller Spirit – It would be easy to say that Windsor were running a farce yesterday with their going descriptions and the fact that the advertised going of Good (5.9) wasn’t changed during the whole meeting, but for this horse it didn’t matter what the going was like. He wasn’t interested in putting his best foot forward and headgear looks badly needed.

1pt e/way Carrigillihy – The expected pace duel between La Pulga and Matchless never materialised. Joe Fanning took back La Pulga and the slow early pace affected the selection. In the end he wasn’t good enough. It should be noted that only the winner could get involved with the leading pair who were setting the pace to suit themselves.

0.5pt e/way Glasses Up – A stronger pace, a weaker race and a longer trip needed for this one.

2pts e/way Carp Kid – I was surprised John Flint let this one run. Quoted as wanting a Good surface when last interviewed at Bath, I was very dubious about him liking a trip like this with conditions on the Round track riding 27L per mile Slow, and so it proved.

2pts win Hi Clare (102) – Everything went according to plan with Joe Fanning getting an uncontested lead and staying there all the way to the line. It would be nice if more races went as smoothly as this. Result 1st 3/1 adv.…SP 3/1

Today’s Advice

Jack Yeats (13f 26y Hcap) Stuart Coltherd’s horses are in decent form at the moment over Jumps. This 7-y-o has three nice efforts on the clock when last seen on the Flat, which would suggest that he may be overpriced as the outsider of tonight’s (6.25) Ayr. Just beaten a short head at Redcar last August while recording a speed figure of (100) carrying 9st 11lbs, and a (99) with the same weight lto at Carlisle, he continues to drop down the weights. A rewatch of his most recent effort over hurdles yields encouragement as he was staying on despite not jumping well at all. Racing off the same mark as when second at Redcar last year and with Paula Muir claiming 3lbs off on board, he might just outrun his odds tonight.
