Sunday 25th June 2023 Selections and Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Stormy Jenn (97) – A slowly run race with the first four finishers racing in the first five positions. The selection ran an admirable race just finding an unexposed Pinot Gris (98) three quarters of a length too good attempting to give him 10lbs. Result 2nd 17/2 adv….11/2 SP.

1pt e/way Young Ireland (99) – Very little went right for the selection from the start. I had expected him to be on the pace but a poor start from the widest draw put paid to that. The ground had dried out very fast during the day, and had to be changed from a Yielding to Soft surface to being Good by the third race. The times were 3L per mile fast on the day, and that’s not what we wanted for the selection (whose best form is on a softer surface). In the end he could only manage 4th place, which some may have got paid out on, but will go down as an unlucky loser for most each way backers.

Today’s Advice

MY LITTLE QUEENS (10f Handicap) – Richard Fahey’s 5-y-o mare attempts to record her seventh career win in today’s (4.15) Pontefract. She stayed on nicely from an impossible position lto at Beverley having been badly drawn in stall (11). Her previous win at Hamilton over the extended 9f resulted in a career best (108) speed figure. The form has a solid look to it with the likes of Rebecca Menzies’ Balalaika placing an excellent third in the Class 2 Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot from a poor position. With a better draw in stall (4) today, and regular pilot Oisin Orr on board, everything looks in place for a solid performance. It is hoped that prominent racers Forceful Speed and Prophet’s Dream set a decent enough pace to bring her into the race.
