1pt each way Too Much – Not the performance we were hoping for from the selection. The fast pace that was expected never materialised. The filly got no cover early on and was too keen in the early stages. When the pace quickened up in the home straight the response was limited. It was reported to the stewards that she ran flat. The winner Mountain Song received the best speed figure on the day (106).
Today’s Advice
Numidia (9f Handicap) this 5-y-o gelding had been catching my eye from a lowly mark since last years run at Leopardstown over 12 furlongs. His main problem has been that he can race a bit keen and had been running over trips that were a bit too far for him. His run at Down Royal over the extended 10 furlongs on a Yielding to Soft surface when finishing fourth was fine for this level. Drawn in the widest stall in (17/17) he was forced to race wide that day and had every chance before giving way inside the final furlong. He has since broke his maiden tag on the sand at Dundalk over the winter in a strongly run mile race. It would appear that today’s trip of 9 furlongs just might be his ideal trip. The race wasn’t run to suit him the last day with very little pace on at Dundalk. Racing off a mark of (51) today, taking into account Joey Sheridan’s 3lb claim, the selection may be able to find that second win of his career sooner rather than later.
