Today’s Advice

Storm Eric (7F Handicap) this 4-y-o son of Estidhkaar returns to his favourite track tonight at Dundalk (7.40). Still lightly raced, with just ten career starts, he showed his first piece of form back in January over tonight’s course and distance. Sent off at an unfancied 80/1, he managed to finish third, behind Bold Ribb and Lauroline. The first time application of a tongue tie may have started the improvement. Since then he has been drawn in the car park, in stall (14) both times, but still finished second. The first effort behind Circles was a noticeable step up on the clock. Next time out he chased home Mullacash Buzz, who made all in a slow time, last month. The selection did have a run at the Curragh, last time out, on a Soft to Heavy surface, where he was well beaten. I am willing to give him another chance, back on his favoured surface, and I’m sure he would be a lot shorter in the betting without the Curragh effort. Cian MacRedmond takes off a valuable 5lbs tonight with a much better draw in stall (3). Everything looks in place for a better performance tonight.

Bobby Joe Leg (7F 14Y Handicap) This 9-y-o gelding returns to Southwell tonight (8.30) where he has performed well since it changed it’s surface to Tapeta. I must admit to not being much of a fan of this horse, in the past, as his overall profile looked patchy. However, that all changed in October last year when his trainer, Ruth Carr, managed to get him to reproduce his best performances. A hat trick was quickly rattled off, starting from a lowly handicap mark of (46). The second of these wins resulted in a big speed figure at Newcastle. While he has since been beaten nine times, it would be unwise to assume that he has gone back to his old ways. He has since placed four times and was unable to get a clear run twice, noticeably last time out at Newcastle. Tonight’s jockey, James Sullivan, has been on board the two times he has been denied a run. Hopefully a clear passage through can be found tonight from a good draw in stall (2). The Ed Dunlop trained Cloud Queen heads the market following a reportedly unlucky run last time out at Lingfield. The lightly raced daughter of Garswood may have been given a low handicap mark of (62) to start her career from. Off the track for 175 days, prior to that run, she may improve again. As we are still learning about her I am happy to go with the more consistent profile of our selection.
