1pt e/way Asgard’s Captain – Sometimes we forget, as punters, how difficult some tracks can be if we don’t get involved regularly at them. Roscommon is one of these. If you don’t have early pace round here you can get into all sorts of difficulties. We know the selection has no early pace and takes time to get going. I ask myself why is he being entered at tracks like Sligo and Roscommon? The winner Alfarida (94) got across from stall (8) and won a race that was run 3L per mile slower than Par. Hopefully they can find a suitable track for Asgard’s Captain. The first four horses at the first bend finished in the first four. Superb efforts from the winner from stall (8) and the second from stall (11) to get across.

0.5pt e/way Mary Salome – Clockwatchers will know of the great performances from Andrew Kinirons’ mare during her career. Her early pace is a gift around a track like this. Once she got into a nice position tracking the pace, it was going to take a good one to beat her (if she was in form). She is always one to keep on your side. Result 1st 16/1..14/1 adv.…SP 14/1
1pt e/way Morning Approach – An off day for the selection who ran 6L per mile slower than expected. She was noted losing her position during the race and there was no response up the home straight. One to put a line through.
1pt win Glasses Up – A bit of a frustrating performance as there was no pace in the race and Paddy Mathers was happy to sit last and race keenly for a decent part of the race. The horse has led in the past over 10f and achieved RPRs of 84. Hopefully connections can find the right race for him going forward.
1pt e/way The Muffin Man – The selection snuck into the places at the finish but his lack of early pace will mean that he will need others to do work for him going forward.
Today’s Advice
1pt e/way Marlay Park (7f 3y Hcap) Jim Boyle’s admirable gelding is a standing dish around the Epsom Downs with three wins and five places already to his name. Usually held up for a late run, he will need a few prominent racers from the past to possibly take on Urban Sprawl (the likely front runner in the race). If Pat Cosgrave can get him relaxed early on he should be able to come home nicely, and hopefully put his head in front near the line.
