Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Hersilia – Redredrobin (105) posted a career best on the clock, and showed a nice attitude in the finish. Hersilia (89) couldn’t reproduce her (103) figure from Chelmsford. Perhaps the ground was too quick for her, however, her response when put under pressure was very limited.

1pt e/way Bellaphina – A slowly run race that suited the selection who was trying the trip for the first time. Bellaphina (84) showed her usual battling qualities to win by a head from Clounmacon, and a further 0.5L back to Snowcapped. Position once again proved crucial in this sport and this time we got first run on two big dangers. Result 1st 4/1 BOG adv…SP 13/2.

0.5pt e/way Hightimeyouwon – Verhoyen (115) finally bounced back to something like the (114) he recorded at last year’s meeting. Clock watchers will have been super impressed with that figure and I have landed on him in various races since, hoping to see something similar. The fact that it has taken him sixteen races to do it again, shows you difficult it can be to catch certain horses (especially ones that try to anticipate the start like he does). Hightimeyouwon (106) was a little bit disappointing with his response under pressure, as he can be. I was expecting a lot more considering he was 21lbs better off with Ice Cold In Alex from their run last year on the 25th June when beaten just 2L.

1pt e/way Tosen Wish – Johnny Murtagh’s Rahmi (113) reversed form with Dunum from Limerick, who had beaten him by 8L on a softer surface. Tosen Wish (107) did have a bit of troubled passage through when it looked like he was struck hard across the face by a rival’s whip. Perhaps another chance can be given to him, although with his racing style he is always going to need those in front to go too fast.
