Saturday April 8th 2023 Selections and Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Hot Team – a value selection, as the outsider of the field, Gina Mangan managed to coax him home into the place money. I was expecting a bit more from him but he is obviously not in the type of form that he was during July and August of last year, just yet. Result 4th 28/1 advised…25/1 SP

0.5pt e/way Bawaader – The selection came up 1 3/4 lengths short of the places and this performance was about 4 lengths slower than his previous performance at Southwell by my timing calculations. The ground was getting more difficult to get through as the day progressed and it may have been too Soft for the selection.

Today’s Advice

Moss Tucker (6F Listed) this 5-y-o gelding is a very consistent, likeable type of horse who really raised his game towards the back-end last season. Now rated (107) by the handicapper, he started last season off a handicap mark of (91). Three wins and a 5th place in the Group 1 Prix De L’Abbaye later and connections have an exciting sprinter to look forward to this season. When the ground is on the Soft side is where it seems that the selection really comes into his own. His win on his final start of the season over 6 furlongs at The The Curragh on Heavy ground recorded a very decent (111) speed figure carrying 9st 7lbs. He does carry a 3lb penalty today and as it’s only his seasonal debut stakes need to be kept low. With the ground forecast to be Heavy today I am happy to take on the favourite Tenebrism who may be better on a quicker surface.
