Fircombe Hall (6f Hcap) – This 5yo caught the eye lto at Newcastle when having a luckless run under Hollie Doyle over today’s distance. The handicapper has dropped him 2lbs to a handicap mark of (47) for today’s (1.20) Newcastle, and he is now 6lbs below his last winning mark. He has placed at today’s venue in the past and he may be a little overpriced for today’s contest. His style of racing limits staking to a minimum level.
Haworth Star ( 7f 14y Hcap) – This Richard Fahey trained gelding went down by only a length on his sand debut at Wolverhampton lto in a race where the winning time was 6 lengths per mile faster than par. The handicapper has only raised him 2lbs, and a reproduction of that effort would see him win tonight’s (6.20) Newcastle. The main question is how he will handle tonight’s different course. At the prices on offer it may be worth chancing a small interest. He is very lightly raced and may need a bit of pace to aim at.
Vadiana (8f Lst) – Followers of this column will be familiar with the selection who did very well to win over a trip shorter than ideal lto. A much more favourable mile for tonight’s (6.30) Dundalk should see her in an even better light. Her winning times indicate that she is well handicapped off (84). She should be competitive, even with the step up in grade, as long as she there is a decent pace to aim at. It is hoped prominent racers Keep In Touch, Persian Jewel and Time To Boogie provide enough pace to aim at.
Leabaland (8f Hcap) – This 6yo has dropped to a career low handicap mark of (54) for tonight’s (8.00) Dundalk. The C&D winner has drawn stall (14) on the outside of tonight’s field, and we will be hoping for a bit of magic from Seamie Heffernan in navigating a decent trip. Most of his efforts at this venue from last winter would see him very competitive tonight.
