Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Springwell Bay (Fell) – The selection appeared to be going well but looked to have got in too close and hit the fourth last fence. Unfortunately, he also got in too close to the third last fence, and had a fatal fall. A sad end for a brave warrior.
0.75pt e/way Protektorat (115) – A below par effort from the selection who never looked threatening when asked for his effort, before weakening into fourth place.
0.75pt e/way An Peann Dearg (89) – The selection never appeared to be going well in rear before coming home a well beaten sixteenth.
1pt win Jagwar (112) – Another victory for this improving six-year old who came home two and three quarter lengths clear at the finish despite not jumping with great fluency in midfield throughout the contest. Result 1st 7/2 adv…3\1f SP.
Today’s Advice
SMART SYSTEM (1200M (6f) Hcap) – This improving five-year-old still looks to be a step ahead of the handicapper despite a ten pound rise in the weights for a smooth (106) winning speed figure recorded over course and distance last time out. That performance from a midfield draw in stall seven tops today’s field on the clock, and a reproduction of that effort from an even better draw in stall three will make him very hard to beat if in the same mood. His performances have improved greatly since the application of a visor, and top jockey Silvestre De Sousa takes the ride for today’s (4.35) Meydan. His main danger would appear to be Pen Portrait who he finished ahead of last time, out and meets on a pound better terms. That rival won nicely over 1400m (7f) at this venue last time out, and has a quick seven day turnaround to overcome.
1pt win Smart System (10/3 William Hill, 3/1 General) 4.35 Meydan
I will be enjoying Galopin Des Champs performance in the Gold Cup, and hoping he can record the hat-trick of victories in the race.
