Today’s Advice

NIKKI SWANGO (7f Hcap) – The (1.40) Newcastle looks a race worth some attention on Trials Day as the selection attempts to win her fifth race from her last six. This will be her first race on Tapeta but she is related to two-time course winner Mercurius Power through her grand-dam Dame Hester. She holds the top timefigure at the weights of today’s rivals and while it is best to keep course form with course form she does look worth a small interest to continue her excellent form. Hollie Doyle is booked for the ride and a high draw in stall 10 could prove beneficial as it has sometimes in the past at this venue.

Favourite Stateira returns to the track where she was most impressive back in November but she has been beaten since and at the prices the Ado McGuinness trained mare looks a bit more value.

AUGUSTUS GLOOP (6f Hcap) – This James Fanshawe trained three-year-old holds the top timefigure at the weights for today’s (3.55) Newcastle following a strong handicap debut over the six furlongs at Wolverhampton last time out. He didn’t get the clearest of runs on that occasion but was still only a neck down at the line giving the winner Saffron Dandy seven pounds. The handicapper has left him alone on a mark of 82 and a return to the course and distance where he was most impressive when beating next time out Newmarket winner Major Neigh Sayer should see him with a decent chance of getting back in the winner’s enclosure.

Harry Davies has been booked for the ride and it should be noted that he was won on two of his last three rides for the stable aboard Glittering Legend on both occasions back in 2024. The short priced favourite Dartrey attempts to win her fourth race in fifteen days but at the prices I prefer to side with the course form of the selection.

BIG GOSSEY (7f Hcap) – Instant Appeal seeks a four-timer in today’s (6.45) Dundalk following a length and a quarter defeat of the selection over course and distance last time out. The handicapper has added 6lbs to his mark for today’s contest and the booking of more than capable seven pound apprentice Patrock McGettigan plus the overall twelve pound turnaround at the weights makes me side with the likeable nine-year-old on this occasion. The two time course winner is better known for his exploits on turf but he looks due a return to the Dundalk winner’s enclosure following his three most recent runner-up efforts at today’s venue.
