Today’s Advice

Galician Girl (8F Hcap) – Three year old handicaps can be difficult contests to get involved in as we are still learning about the participants, and their profile’s have not been set as much as we might like. The (7.00) Dundalk is such a race, but as with a lot of races the clock can point us in the right direction more often than not. The key race with regards to final times looks to be the race Mary Bagot won on the first of this month by two and a quarter lengths from Dandy Lichious when recording a (102) speed figure. Her case seems solid enough as a prominent racer who showed a nice turn of foot at the business end of her race. However, in the selection we have another filly in that race who also caught the eye. This Ado McGuinness trained three-year-old was returning to the track following a 72 day absence, and had a difficult draw in stall ten on that occasion. She was held up in the rear and made good headway in the home straight to finish two and three quarter lengths behind the winner. From a better draw in stall five tonight, with a seven pound pull at the weights and at a slightly bigger price she looks worth a sporting interest to finish a lot closer to the winner tonight (and with a bit of luck in front). She also looks to have more scope than the winner as a larger filly, and hopefully she can make a step forward in the right direction tonight.

Water Of Leith (6F Hcap) – With westerly winds of up to twenty six miles per hour forecast for tonight’s (7.15) Newcastle it may pay to side with the hold up performers on the straight course. This Jim Goldie trained six-year-old fits the bill, and with prominent racers in the contest such as The Gay Blade, Dream Together and Redzone we should get a truly run race for him to aim at. With four wins under his belt since acquired from Rebecca Menzies in the summer of 2022, and a high of 77 reached in the handicap, he looks poised for a decent campaign in 2024 since his comeback run seven days ago off a handicap mark of just 62. On that occasion he was held up over the minimum trip at Wolverhampton, and finished his race nicely in second place a length behind Thismydream. Conditions look to be in his favour back up to six furlongs tonight, and although he has been well found by the market, he looks worth a small interest to get back in the winner’s enclosure.
