Today’s Advice

EYE OF DUBAI/ROUSING ENCORE (6f 2y Hcap) – With the ground described as Heavy (Soft in places) for today’s (1.33) Doncaster I went looking for those in form and who have performed well when the going allowance was on the very slow side as opposed to very soft by the going description.

The former has been a bit in and out this season but won a Class 2 handicap by a neck from Aleezdancer last time out at Ripon over six furlongs, his first win since the cheekpieces have been applied. He had finished third before that in the Ayr Silver Cup on soft going although the winning times were more on the good to soft side. His soft ground win over course and distance last November from Two Stars plus a heavy ground Catterick win from 2024 give the best indication that today’s conditions should prove suitable.

The latter finished a head back in third on that occasion and won nicely two runs back at Ayr on soft going (with winning times more on the good to soft side) under the welter burden of 10st 2lbs from Lord Bertie. I am willing to allow him his latest effort at York where he didn’t get the clearest of runs.

ABERAMA GOLD (6f Hcap) – This eight-year-old has been a model of consistency this season and was unlucky to be caught near the line last time out at Goodwood. The handicapper has kindly left him alone for today’s (4.28) Doncaster and his form on heavy going reads well having won the last two times he has encountered it (28th October and 5th August 2023).

Cian Horgan takes a valuable five pounds off today and he will be hoping to get back in the winner’s enclosure for the first time since July following a couple of placed efforts on Lord Bertie.

ROSIE FRITH (5f Nursery) – This two-year-old filly holds the top timefigure of (106) of today’s (6.40) Dundalk contestants for her course and distance runner-up performance to the Ger Lyons trained By The Lake. She looked a shade unlucky that day to be caught near the line having made most of the running. She was also beaten a nose at Cork having just been caught near the finish over six furlongs in an auction stakes race by L L Koulsty.

Patrick McGettigan gets on well with her and his seven pound claim and experience aboard will prove invaluable in her first handicap. I will be hoping she makes all this time and exits the stalls as swiftly as she normally does.
