Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Anglo Saxson (88) – Not the ride I was hoping for from Paul Mulrennan. The selection was rushed up to dispute the lead with Copper And Five, who we identified as a likely front runner. I was hoping that he could save some energy for the finish, as he did in his previous race. Unfortunately, both horses finished unplaced having taken each other on a long way from home. The horse that the selection finished behind last time out, Royal Velvet, won an £18,000 handicap in the Racing League at Yarmouth on the night…
1pt e/way Mostawaa (90) – As predicted the selection was allowed an uncontested lead, and did well to make the frame in the end. He will be worth following on a round track with similar conditions next time out. Result 4th 8/1 adv…14/1 SP
1pt win Midair (106) – The fastest time on the card with the winner Rathgar (113) repeating his excellent figure last time out from the Northumberland plate over two miles. The selection never threatened from a rails position, and will need to show a lot more before getting involved again following a gelding operation.
Today’s Advice
Dora Milaje (10f 56y Lstd) – With conditions advertised as Good To Firm (Good in places) for the (7.50) York tonight, it may pay to allow the selection’s fourth place finish last time out at Pontefract when ground conditions were on the soft side . Previously she had looked impressive enough when travelling well in the rear before quickening to lead near the finish at Haydock. She also met trouble in running on that occasion having to be switched before making her challenge. This is obviously a step up in class, but she looks worth an each way interest at a double figure price back on a sounder surface. There should be a decent enough pace in tonight’s field with plenty of prominent racing form on view in the formbook.
War Chant (8f Hcap) – Ground conditions also play a part with this Rae Guest trained selection who was pulled out from a wet Windsor recently as the ground had deteriorated on the night. With the ground described as Good with a going stick reading of (7.2) on the round course for tonight’s (8.10) Sandown conditions should be fine for Callum Shepherd’s mount. We will be hoping for a smoother passage through the field at the business end of the race than jockey Tommie Jakes experienced last time out at Doncaster, when he was denied a clear run at a vital time. The selection still looks well handicapped from a mark of 74 considering the fourth placed horse that day, Al Muqdad, has won at Ayr since. As a prominent racer Callum Shepherd should have no problem with pace for today’s contest.
