Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Fircombe Hall (96) – Sometimes you can correctly pick the right piece of form but the result is turned upside down. The selection finished ahead of the winner Penny Mountain last time out and was even better off at the weights. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reproduce his effort this time having travelled in midfield and just keeping on in the finish to be beaten two and a half lengths. The track was riding about 8 lengths per mile slow the last time they met. But conditions were much tougher yesterday with the track riding almost 22 lengths per mile slow. Perhaps he needs less testing conditions to be at his best.

Today’s Advice

WELCOME DREAM (6f Hcap) – The (2.05) Meydan sees favourite Don Pacifico drawn out wide in stall fourteen following a decent course debut last time out staying on well from behind to be beaten a neck by the selection. He is 2lbs better off this time around but the draw will mean that he will have to give up a lot of ground early on and hope that they go an overly quick pace up front.

Tadhg O’Shea’s mount is better drawn in stall three today having been widest of all in eight last time out and providing he saves something for the finish I prefer his chances at a bigger price. He is 2/2 over course and distance and there should hopefully be more to come following his seasonal debut.

CLOUD SEEKER (9f Hcap) – This course debutant caught the eye last time out over ten furlongs when having to race three wide on the outside and not getting a clear run through at the business end of the race on more than one occasion. Nesthorn, the favourite for today’s (4.40) Bahrain won nicely that day but the selection meets him on 10lb better terms and it was worth noting that he was finishing best of all in the closing stages at 34.54mph according to the sectional timing data.

A better draw in stall five today should help save energy early on and although the step back a furlong in trip may not be ideal he looks an interesting contender at the prices considering he likes to race prominently.

LINO PADRINO (7f Cns) – This three-year-old was very impressive on debut when coming home four lengths clear of his rivals over course and distance having missed the break at the start. He raced keenly in rear early on before making an audacious wide move around the entire field to lead over two furlongs out. It looked impressive and he looks like he should be favourite for today’s (5.00) Meydan on the back of that effort.

Tadhg O’Shea has chosen him over Six Speed and the hint should be taken.

TONAL (8f 142y Hcap) – This six-year-old looks to be improving at the moment having won three of his last four races and looking very unlucky in the other one. He recorded a career best (108) timefigure last time out when coming home a length and a half clear of Rajinoora having raced in touch with the leaders. He can take a pull in behind so the faster they go up front for tonight’s (7.00) Wolverhampton the better for him. It will be hoped that prominent racers Threatening and Al Rufaa provide a decent enough pace for him to show his best.

Regualr pilot Ryan Kavanagh is on board once again having ridden the son of Siyouni his past four races and this previous course winner still looks ahead of the handicapper off his current mark.
