Starsoftheclock Friday 4th September Selections And Review

4th September, 2026 @ 8:45am

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Boyfriend (109) – The selection found his way blocked on more than one occasion when trying to close down the leaders over two furlongs from home. He was eventually switched to the stands side rail and was flying at the finish but got going too late beaten three quarters of a length in third. A missed opportunity as he was clearly the best horse on the day. Result 3rd 9/2, 4/1 adv….4/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

CANCAN IN THE RAIN (8f Hcap) – The (1.55) Ascot for Lady Amateur riders has plenty of solid form on offer from those at the head of the betting. The short priced favourite Tex won at today’s venue over 7f and appreciated the step up to the mile at Brighton last time out when just failing by a neck behind the James Owen trained Sea Suite. He usually races in rear though and with just Eazy On The Eye looking the likely pace he may find himself with a lot to do late on.

The Heather Main trained contestant ran a very nice race last time out over the mile at Windsor on a soft surface when finishing runner-up to Maximising. The six day turnaround is off-putting and the selection looks more of a solid option having performed with credit last time out over 7f at Newmarket. The six-year-old should appreciate the return to the mile and put in a career best effort on the clock when finishing 1.75 lengths adrift of Mr Writer. It looked like the first-time cheekpieces helped on the day and with previous course form on his CV he should be in the mix today. Georgie Benson is more know for her exploits in the National Hunt sphere but has a decent record on the Flat having won 5 from 24 (20.83%) since the summer of 2012.

VERVAIN (12f 194y Hcap) – This four-year-old looked unlucky two runs back at Gowran Park when given a lot to do over 12f in a Lady Riders race when going down by a head to L’Un Deux Trois. The step up to 2 miles last time out at Tramore didn’t appear to play to her strengths and she may be worth another go dropped back in trip for tonight’s (7.00) Down Royal. She looks well treated from a lowly mark and apprentice Jimmy Dalton takes a handy 7lb off her back. The young apprentice has had a decent August with 2 winners from 13 rides aboard Anightaway at Sligo and Sunrise Angel at Cork.

Short priced favourite Flagstone Lady caught the eye four days ago at Roscommon over 12f when not getting the clearest of runs in behind Priorstown and looks an obvious danger but will have to navigate a difficult passage from stall 17 tonight.
