0.75pt e/way Etretat (93) – A slowly run race with the winner and third placed finisher occupying the first two places from early on in the race. it seems to happen too often in races when there is plenty of pace on paper beforehand, and jockey’s are afraid to set up a pace that is even reasonable. The selection’s position early on was not good enough for the way the race was run, and he will always struggle in slowly run races going forward.

Today’s Advice

Hafeet Alain (8f Hcap) – With the ground advertised as Soft for today’s (4.45) Ascot, and with rain forecast, the ability to handle conditions will be important. This eight-year-old already has three career wins on Soft ground so that box should be ticked fine. The main concern is the one hundred and twenty five day absence from the track since finishing unplaced at Newmarket in May. The horse does perform well when fresh, however, with his last win coming off a one hundred and fourty eight day break under today’s jockey Saffie Osborne back in April. He looks the right price for a speculative interest considering conditions may not suit too many of his rivals, and with questions to be answered this season by the short priced favourite Awaal.
