Today’s Advice
Silver Sword & Ouzo (9f Hcap) – Short priced favourite for today’s (3.50) Meydan, Arabian Light, was backed off the boards on his course debut last time out. While he didn’t get the clearest of runs in the home straight, his performance wouldn’t have me rushing to back him at odds on again. The key to today’s race could be pace, and Kalidasa looks the only one that has taken up the front-running role recently. A position close to the pace may prove more important than usual, and while Silver Sword may not leap off the screen with his performance last time out there have been signs lately that he is starting to come back to some sort of form. He was stuck three wide last time out, and made his move around the outside of the field three furlongs out. Leading briefly over a furlong out, he weakened inside the final furlong to finish fifth beaten just over four lengths. The winner First Conquest won very well, but there wasn’t much between today’s favourite in third and Ouzo back in sixth. The handicapper has dropped Silver Sword a pound back down to his last winning handicap mark, and with a kinder trip from stall tow today 9providing he settles well) he might get first run on a few of today’s rivals. Course specialist Ouzo has been dropped two pounds by the handicapper, and he could be spotted last time out finishing nicely on the heels of the front five having his first run in 118 days. He is now racing off a mark two pounds lower than his last winning handicap mark, and as a hold-up performer in stall fifteen , the more pace up front for him the better.
Topper Bill (6f Hcap) – The selection went close over course and distance last time out behind Rasas, just going down by three quarters of a length having raced away from the action down the middle of the track. A reproduction of that effort would see him in with a solid chance of taking today’s (4.25) Meydan. He is a three time course winner over five, six and seven furlongs so is very familiar with his surroundings. The handicapper has left him unchanged for that recent effort, and he looks worth an interest for today’s contest considering he holds the strongest piece of recent form. Favourite Jungle Mac caught the eye last time out at Abu Dhabi from a wide draw in stall thirteen while wearing a first time tongue tie staying on at the finish. However, I prefer the solid form of the selection, as the favourite is just starting his Emirates career.
