Starsoftheclock Friday 8th May 2026 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Fozzie (100) – This was a long way from the selection’s latest effort on the clock at Thirsk. Luckily, he clung on for second place after setting a strong pace. Result 2nd 11/2 adv…9/2 SP.

0.75pt e/way Roaring Ralph (100) – It was right to take on the favourite Avatar Jet (97) who failed to match his latest effort on the clock. The selection looked like he was coming with a race winning move over a furlong from home but found the winner too hot inside the final furlong. He came home 2 lengths behind Military Leader (102) and this race should set him up for another win soon. Result 2nd 5/1 adv…11/2 SP.

0.75pt e/way Looks Fantastic (96) – The selection was a few lengths off his recent performance on the clock at the weights and he weakened tamely two furlongs from home after racing prominently. The winner Lord Capulet (102) reproduced his recent all-weather form back on turf and he really should have been the selection considering his dam had won on turf and she had also bred Group 1 winner Rosallion.

Today’s Advice

ALBAYDAA/AY UP DUCK (7f Hcap) – The William Haggas stable have had the winner of the (1.50) Ascot three times from the last seven years and it looks like they have another decent chance with the former selection. She looks well treated by the handicapper considering she won her maiden at Wolverhampton over 7 furlongs by five and a half lengths with the now rated 106 filly Pierchic back in third place. A staying on third place finish on seasonal debut over 6f at Newmarket looked a nice return to action judging by the clock and she should enjoy the step up in trip today.

The latter selection looks a shade overpriced considering he is top rated on the clock at today’s weights having answered every call last time out over 7f at Southwell while recording a (110) timefigure from the Tim Easterby trained Red Spells Danger. The dam Fountain Of Time won a couple of turf races at Longchamp and Hoppergarten. At the prices on offer, I am willing to give him a chance to show me that he can be equally effective on today’s surface which has been kind to all-weather winners in the past. With the stalls in the centre I am hoping that the field will stay racing down the middle of the track like last year’s winner Power Fizz and that the draw will prove fair for all contestants.

ARRY UP (6f Hcap) – This Rod Millman three-year-old has been a step ahead of the handicapper this season and he holds the top timefigure of (107) of today’s contestants for the (4.00) Ascot recorded when making all the running last time out over 6f at Kempton. The field looked like they were coming back to him at the furlong pole on that occasion, but the son of Harry Angel found another gear in the straight and powered home a length and a quarter clear of another of today’s rivals in Hallo Spaceboy. A six furlong turf winner at Leicester he looks well drawn against the near side rail to repeat the same tactics considering a high draw proved helpful at the previous meeting where the Michael Herrington trained Far Above The Law won well racing from a similar position.

The handicapper has only put him up 5lb for his latest victory and regular pilot Lewis Edmunds is back on board today. The combination are looking to record a four-timer. Everything looks in place for another solid performance and connections also enjoyed a winner at Kempton on Wednesday with I’m Workin On It.
