Today’s Advice

Calafrio (5f Hcap) – Prominent racer and short priced favourite for tonight’s (6.15) Newcastle HK Fourteen backs up quickly again under a ten pound penalty having won over six furlongs at this venue. With other prominent racers such as Blackcurrent and Ninety Nine in the line-up, it may prove wise to look for a contestant that races a little off the pace. The selection fits that bill, and the handicapper has only put her up one pound for an excellent effort over course and distance last week behind Blue Force. The application of cheekpieces has seen her finish a close runner-up the last twice, and if this race doesn’t come too soon, she looks worth an interest to go one place better.

Vivienda (8f Lstd) – This Ger Lyon’s trained three-year-old showed decent battling qualities last time out when winning over seven furlongs at this track, and looks worth a step up in distance for tonight’s (6.30) Dundalk. On that occasion she tracked the pace before taking up the running two furlongs out and galloping all the way to the line to come home a length and three quarters to the good. With the dam Hot Snap a winner over the mile, and placed over ten furlongs, tonigh’t test should hold no fears for her. Colin Keane has chosen short priced favourite stablemate Sakti instead, and has drawn the carpark draw in stall seventeen. While on ratings alone the favourite looks to hold an edge, on the clock our selection looks to represent a bit of value looking at the markets.

Sayfa Fad (8f Hcap) – This lightly raced three-year-old filly has just one effort on the all-weather to her name when finishing sixth behind Marble Angel over course and distance back in September. On that occasion she had to be dropped in from her wide draw in stall sixteen in a race that didn’t suit the closers, with Marble Angel and Comfort line racing prominently, but was noted as a top two finisher in the closing furlong sectionals by Course Track. She doesn’t look the easisest of conveyances, and has disappointed on Soft ground at Roscommon since, but she looks the right price for a speculative interest considering she is better drawn in stall four for tonight’s (8.00) Dundalk.

Morning Approach (8f Hcap) – Billy Lee takes the ride on this six-year-old mare once again, and the partnership were successful from a pound lower handicap rating over this course and distance last winter. She blew the start when last seen over this course and distance, and could only finish in seventh place behind Marble Angel in a race not run to suit, so hopefully she can exit better from the stalls for tonight’s (8.30) Dundalk. She should appreciate the return to polytrack, having disappointed on a yielding to soft surface at The Curragh most recently, and she looks worth an interest at the prices on offer with old favourite Storm Eric a live danger at a much shorter price.
