Yesterday’s Review
Affirm (102) – A below par performance from the four-year-old who weakened even more than in the past when asked to find another gear in the home straight. It’s possible that the bounce factor could have been in play here, but he looks vulnerable in the finish going forward.
Today’s Advice
Coconut Bay (7f 36y) – A return to tonight’s course and distance for the (6.40) Wolverhampton should see this five-year-old mare in a better light than her two most recent efforts on turf. She meets current favourite Kodebreaker on seven pounds better terms from their meeting here last May, and she looks the right price for an interest with today’s conditions more to her liking. She likes to race prominently, and while her old rival looked a shade unlucky that day, he will need more luck in running tonight if held up from the rear once again.
War Chant (8f 31y Hcap) – Prominent racing can be seen to provide quite an advantage at Windsor on the round track recently, and this Rae Guest trained gelding fits the bill for tonight’s (7.50) Windsor. He also recorded one of the top speed figures (108) of tonight’s field when winning at Nottingham last month. Callum Shepherd, who was on board that night, takes the ride again. He looked a shade unlucky last time out at Doncaster in a slowly run race when not getting the clearest of runs two furlongs out. With little pace on paper for tonight’s contest, bar Cabinet Of Clowns, it is hoped that the selection can simply track the expected front runner before putting his stamp on the race in the home straight.
Expert Witness (10f Hcap) – This Sir Mark Todd trained four-year-old looks to be improving judged on recent form, and meets current short priced favourite God Of Fire on three pound better terms for tonight’s (8.20) Windsor than when he beat that rival last time out at Salisbury. It looked a comfortable victory on that occasion, and the market looks to have underestimated his chance when compared to the favourite for tonight’s contest. God Of Fire was returning from a two hundred and fifty one day break for his new stable that day, and has since looked improved when taking his last two races, but this has been factored into his price. The selection can race prominently, and it is hoped he can get a nice tow into the race from his old rival and other front runner Morcar. Regular pilot George Rooke is on board again tonight, and his experience will come in handy once again.
