Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Different Breed (98) – A fine effort from the selection just thirteen days after his excellent effort at Wolverhampton. He ran to exactly the figure I had in mind for him at the weights. Connections should be able to find a liitle race for him going forward. Result 2nd 11/2 adv…9/2 SP.
1pt e/way Makinmedoit (92) – A rare poor effort from the selection who managed to finish outside the first four for the first time in her last seven races on the all-weather. She has performed well off a slow pace in the past, so it would be best to say she simply had an off day. I usually prefer my selection to challenge away from the inside rail in the home straight at Lingfield.
0.5pt e/way Harb (102) – It looked like connections had a different day in mind for the selection.
0.75pt e/way Miss Moonshine (101) – A career best on the clock at the weights from the selection who overcame a wide draw to show great battling qualities at the finish. There should be another win in her going forward. Result 1st 9/2 adv…4/1 SP.
Today’s Advice
Mercurius Power (10f 42y Hcap) – This 6yo returned to the winner’s enclosure lto over the mile at this venue when running on well at the finish to hold the Alan Brown trained Ice Shadow by 1 1/2 lengths. Racing off a career low handicap mark of 57 on that occasion there should still be room for improvement from him off a 5lb higher mark in today’s (2.35) Newcastle considering he was not beaten far from a mark of 81 last winter on the all-weather. Although having never won at today’s distance he has placed form over today’s C&D, and his dam Dame Hester had winning form over the extended nine furlongs at Folkestone. He looks worth taking a chance on to continue his recent revival in form. With a low draw in stall 3 I am hoping that jockey Ben Sanderson doesn’t make his challenge too far away from the favoured stands side rail in the home straight.
