Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way La Isla Mujeres (105) – A fine ride by Billy Lee who kept it simple and made the running on the selection. She has been improving all season and had too much turn of foot for her rivals over this distance. It will be exciting to see how far she can progress going forward. Result 1st 3/1 adv….8/5f SP.

Today’s Advice

SYLKIE/SAN AER (8f 73y Hcap) – The (1.05) Galway looks an interesting contest on heavy goround with a couple of past winners on a similar surface competing against each other for this end of season prize. The former who won this race last season had finished unplaced in her next six races before showing some of her old sparkle last time out at The Curragh from a wide draw. On that occasion she was held up in the rear before making some nice headway towards the finish. She was beaten only three and a half lengths over the ten furlong trip on a yielding surface. That was a decent return to form, and she finds herself five pounds lower in the handicap than when she won this race last year. Jockey Rory Cleary has been booked for the ride and he will be looking for his third career success aboard this likeable filly.

The latter put in a fine effort last time out over the seven furlong trip at Naas and he has won this race in both 2022 and 2023 from a one pound lower mark. His latest effort saw him finish well from a midfield position into fourth place beaten just two lengths on his debut for the Ross O’Sullivan yard. Donagh O’Connor takes the ride and he has been quiet enough the past two months with just one win aboard Dragon Of Malta while riding mainly for the John McConnell yard. He has ridden six winners for the Ross O’Sullivan stable this year though, and won twice aboard Altimara back in August.

DOWN THE GLEN (7f Nursery) – Mr Tony has been a well found favourite for the (2.06) Galway having won a similar race at Gowran Park last week while sporting first time blinkers. It was a decent step forward from the son of Kodiac but I fancy the chances of the selection who put up a faster timefigure at Bellewstown when finishing five lengths behind impressive winner Synners Kid on a soft surface. The favourite finished behind in fourth place that day without the blinkers and at the prices I prefer to side with the Ross O’Sullivan stable once again.

The likeable grey has been improving incrementally on the clock and as a son of Gleneagles he should appreciate today’s heavy conditions.

SPYCATCHER (6f Gp3) – This seven-year-old put up a rock solid performance last time out over six furlongs at The Curragh behind Art Power following a 50 day break in a Group 3 finishing three quarters of a length back in third place while running on well from a midfield position. He recorded a (116) timefigure on that occasion and a reproduction of that effort would see him in with a great chance of finding the winner’s enclosure for today’s (2.40) Chantilly.

The son of Vadamos is no stranger to trips abroad having just failed by a short head to take the 2023 Group 1 Prix Maurice De Gheest and he should enjoy today’s soft underfoot conditions having won a Group 3 on very soft conditions at Deauville back last season. Pierre-Louis Jamin takes the ride having won aboard the horse back in 2023 at Thirsk, and he has ridden 62 winners for the stable since 2020.

FALCON NINE (10f 42y Hcap) – Trainer Iain Jardine has been having a productive 2025 with 38 winners so far and apprentice Mohammed Tabti has found the winner’s enclosure with 13 of those. This five-year-old had been acquired from the Charlie Fellows stable back in March, and it wasn’t until the blinkers were applied that he has really found some form. Two wins in August on the turf have shown him in a positive light and he recorded a decent (102) timefigure last time out over the mile at Ayr on heavy ground following a 62 day break when finishing third behind Oilisa.

There looks to be room for more improvement as he was once rated almost a stone higher in the handicap back in 2023. He has yet to win over ten furlongs but has won over nine at Carlisle recently and the dam Freedonia was a middle distance winner in France.

He looks an interesting play at a slightly higher price than I expected for today’s (4.10) Newcastle. He likes to race in the rear so will be hoping for a decent pace from prominent racers Etretat, Cascade Hall and Glasses Up.
