Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Self Improvement (94) – Bumped at the start. Crowded near the 800 Metres. After the event, K Teetan reported that after being crowded near the 800 Metres his mount did not travel well after that and raced “flat” in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. This was the stewards report on the selection after the race. He couldn’t reproduce his form with Packing Bole (107) who finished second behind the winner Full Credit (108). Maybe the race came too soon for him.
0.5pt e/way Amaysmont (104) – The selection recorded the exact figure I had in mind for him before the race based on his most recent performances. Unfortunately, trainer Gemma Tutty and jockey Sean Bowen have elicited a superb performance from the winner Ormolulu (108) just 24 hours after finishing in midfield over seven furlongs at this track. It was another consistent performance from the selection who was unlucky that the first time blinkers worked a treat on third placed Miggy Magic (106).
Today’s Advice
Bear Rock (7f 36y Novice) – Trainer Michael Mullineaux produced this filly wonderfully last time out when she placed second behind the easy winner Lattaash over course and distance at the eye-watering price of 66/1. She recorded a speed figure of (104) that day and holds the top figure of today’s (4.30) Wolverhampton contestants. On that occasion she had one of today’s short priced market rivals Grabajabba in behind, who has stepped forward since when winning at Southwell. Waiting For Love also won nicely over the extended mile at Wolverhampton before disappointing yesterday at Southwell. The selection looks worth an interest at the prices on offer, and I would have had her a lot closer in the betting to her two main market rivals in the hope she can continue her consistent form.
Smooth Silesie (5f 21y Hcap) – This Lisa Williamson trained three-year-old filly recorded a career best (106) speed figure when fourth behind recent improver Darlo Pride over course and distance nine days ago. On that occasion she raced from a wide draw in stall ten pressing the leader before keeping on at the finish. She is a pound better off at the weights, and better drawn today in stall six on form with the second placed finisher Mumayaz (who may get even further behind drawn in stall eleven) from that race. Jack Mitchell is on board again today, and he has won twice before on the filly. Nelson Gay’s (105) figure last time out over course and distance would see him as a danger. It will be interesting to see if he can travel better today. He has appeared to be somewhat of a reluctant hero in the past.
Crimson Sand (6f 20y Hcap) – Trainer Simon Earle has managed to improve this horse remarkably since a wind surgery operation this March. He had found it difficult to put his best foot forward in the past, but has won two of his last four races with one over tonight’s course and distance. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his recent excellent form in tonight’s (7.00) Wolverhampton. He should get a nice tow in tonight’s contest from front-runners Filly One, Dyrholaey and Blind Beggar. Kieran O’Neill has won on him in the past, and we will be hoping he can navigate a nice position in behind the leaders from stall seven.
