Starsoftheclock Monday 5th May 2025 Selections And Review

5th May, 2025 @ 9:32am

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Max Que (107) – The selection exited the stalls fine, and had every chance of mounting a serious challenge in the straight. Unfortunately, he was denied a clear run on the inside as the favourite was quickening away down the outside. This was another step forward on the clock for him, and he should be winning soon. Result 2nd 9/2 adv…17/5 SP.

1pt e/way Story Horse (95) – Nobody wanted to make the running, and it was an excellent piece of race riding from Saffie Osbourne to slide into the lead. She was joined by the Sir Mark Prescott trained Blindedbythelights (94) over a furlong from home, and managed to keep him at bay by a short head on the line. It was nice to be on the right side of the result for a change as there have been a few unlucky ones recently. Result 1st 8/1 adv…9/2 SP.

Today’s Advice

COPACABANA SANDS (8f Gp3) – This likeable three-year-old filly went into the notebook when last seen at this track having recorded a fast time behind another of today’s rivals Bint Queen Kindly from a wide draw in stall twenty back in March. I wasn’t happy when she was raised in class next time out, and was tempted to put her up at 66/1 on the day. As it turned out she ran an excellent race, and was ridden up many blind alleys at Leopardstown behind Swelter in another “figure” race.

On another day she could easily have won, and connections’ predictions that she was a Group class filly were correct. Today’s (3.35) Curragh is another tough contest with plenty of other promising fillies. She will more than likely be ridden for luck again today from her wide draw in stall nine, and she looks the right price for a sporting interest given the impression she created last time out.

The Joseph Murphy trained Cercene did finish ahead of her last time out, but I was of the impression that she would have beaten that rival with a clear run. She could well be one of those hard luck fillies that need to pick their way through rivals, but I am happy to be on her side today.

THE FEMININE URGE (5f 21y Hcap) – This three-year-old filly ran an excellent race when finishing third for us last time out behind Maelstrom at Yarmouth over six furlongs, who has won again since. She showed that she was more than capable of performing with credit away from Catterick, and recorded a time two lengths per mile faster than her previous race.

Today’s (3.40) Windsor does represent a drop back in trip to five furlongs, and she may need a stiffer test going forward. As things stand she holds the best efforts on turf of today’s contestants, and she looks worth a small play to continue her good form. The price has been slashed overnight which leaves her as a small win bet.

KELDEO (5f Hcap) – This four-year-old filly recorded a career best (108) speed figure on the clock last time out when finishing ahead of the enigmatic Reigning Profit at Pontefract having had to use up a bit of petrol early on to race prominently from her wide draw in stall ten. That rival has since come out and won, so we know the form looks strong on many counts.

The handicapper has only raised her two pounds for that victory, and the market looks to have her a little overpriced considering she is already a course and distance winner. Cam Hardie is booked for the ride again, and he has already won twice on the daughter of Land Force. Everything looks in place for another solid performance.
