Yesterday’s Review
Shin Emperor (108) – A very poor performance from the selection who found the deteriorating ground not to his liking. Those who raced prominently held a distinct advantage in the finish as can be seen by the positions before the home turn below.
Five of the first six home raced in the first six positions with the winner Bluestocking (117) tracking the eventual third Los Angeles (115). Aventure (116) recorded the fastest final three furlongs in (34.98secs). Special mention for Sevenna’s Knight (112) who received a bad bump leaving the stalls, from our selection, but performed best of the hold-up horses to finish in fifth.
Today’s Advice
Epidavros (8f 6y Hcap) – This Katie Scott trained three-year-old has been improving lately having won his last two races at Carlisle and Hamilton. Today’s soft surface should be fine for him with the first of those two wins also coming on a similar surface. His latest win at Hamilton has already seen Shine On Brendan come out and win, and a three pound rise for that win seems very fair for this son of Magna Grecia. He likes a decent pace to aim at so the presence of Good Morning Alex in today’s (3.02) Pontefract should help his cause. He responds to pressure well, so expect him to keep finding for jockey PJ McDonald when asked.
Emperor Caradoc (6f Hcap) – Paul Midgley’s five-year-old has been performing consistently lately, and has shown a real liking for this venue with a win and two second place finishes from his last three visits to this track. He has shown his effectiveness under today’s conditions with a win over the minimum trip on Soft ground here in July. He was staying on nicely over today’s course and distance last time out when finishing runner-up behind Fiscal Policy when recording a decent (105) speed figure in the process. Jockey Mark Winn has placed twice on him so far from two rides, and will be hoping to go one place better in today’s (4.45) Pontefract.
