Starsoftheclock Saturday 13th July 2024 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Tales Of the Heart (105) – A perfect write-up before the race in that the key race on the clock was highlighted and provided the winner Arabian Dusk (110). As highlighted, I felt the selection and the winner both looked overpriced. Unfortunately, I didn’t put both up as selections. An error on my part. The selection couldn’t match her previous course and distance effort.

0.75pt e/way Tynamite (82) – The pace that appeared on paper pre-race never materialised with this race providing the lowest winning speed figure on the card. The selection was keen and racing much more prominent than he usually enjoys. A race to put a line through.

0.5pt e/way Fact Or Fable (96) – A slightly disappointing effort from the selection on the clock compared to his two previous efforts. The only positive being that he managed to hit the frame at a double figure price. He should pick up a win in a weaker contest going forward. Result 4th 16/1 adv…14/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

Darkness (7f Hcap) – The Bunbury Cup at Newmarket (4.00) today looks as competitive as ever. Ability to handle Newmarket’s undulations is a big advantage and favourite Carrythone’s recent victory on the Rowley course looks to be a strong piece of form. The selection finished in behind the favourite that day having disputed the lead before weakened out of the finish after being badly hampered. Ridden with more restraint over course and distance last time out, he won very well by three lengths while recording a (109) speed figure. Neil Callan takes the ride today, and he has won on him before over the mile off today’s handicap mark. Everything looks in place for a decent effort, and I am hoping he is ridden with a bit of restraint again, and can come through in the second half of the race to show his true form again.

Spaceport (12f Hcap) – This three-year-old recorded a career best (106) speed figure when beaten just a half length behind Subsequent at Salisbury last month. He tried to make all the running that day, and was just headed inside the final furlong. There looks to be very little pace on for today’s (5.10) Newmarket and Lewis Edmunds may be able to catch a few of his opponents napping on this improving prominent racer.

Starshiba (7f Hcap) – Mick Appleby’s seven-year-old gelding caught the eye last time out at Doncaster off a ninety nine day break when not getting the clearest of runs before keeping on at the finish. As a hold-up performer this has been his formline on many occasions, and he probably wins less races than he should. With prominent racers such as Pedro Valentine and Able Kane in today’s (5.17) Ascot we will be hoping for a decent enough pace to help him show his best. Tom Marquand is a strong booking, and this son of Acclamation should be winning races off a mark of 71 sooner rather than later.

Imperial Miss (10f 40y) – This unexposed three-year-old caught the eye last time out at Limerick over the mile when making nice headway from the rear in a race which looked to suit those racing prominently. She recorded the fastest second last furlong in 11.48secs according to Course Track sectionals. The step up in trip for today’s (5.20) Navan looks just what the doctor ordered on breeding, and she looks worth an interest to take on the obvious favourite Doctor Grace.
