Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Kanaille De Faust (70) – An excellent effort from the selection, unfortunately, he has bumped into a well above average PA Gp2 winner. The track record for these types of races was broken, and as soon as the winner Unleashed (72) got ahead of him at the start it was always going to be difficult to overhaul him. The selection did finish ahead of him last time out when the winner had a poor draw. As is the case with a lot of these races round here the draw and early position decide quite a few of the contests. Result 2nd 5/1, 9/2 adv…11/2 SP.
0.5pt e/way Showtime Mahomes (102) – Another solid performance from the selection over this course and distance holding every chance inside the final furlong before weakening into fourth place. The winner Ormolulu (104) was also highly rated on my ratings, but I was worried about stall one for her and losing too much ground early on. Also, the selection had finished ahead of the winner last time out. As it turned out she was a very deserving winner having made up more ground than last time out, and not getting a clear run twice in the home straight.
Today’s Advice
Billyb (7f 14y Hcap) – This five-year-old returned to form last month at Newcastle over seven furlongs following a 127 day break finishing in third place behind improving handicapper Red Maids (who has won twice since). It may be worth forgiving him his latest effort at the same venue when he could find no cover early on while racing too keenly, and was forced to make his own running. There looks to be a decent amount of pace for tonight’s (6.45) Southwell with prominent racers How Impressive, Master Richard, Zip and Three Yorkshiremen in opposition. Providing Shane Gray can save enough energy early doors for the finish, it looks like he should be able to return to some of his previous best form which has seen him win from a three pound higher mark round here in the past.
