Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Mount Kosciuszko (105) – The selection recorded the exact figure I had in mind for him at the weights, showing his admirable consistency. Unfortunately, the winner Cupid’s Dream (109) performed six lengths better than he has done before in his career. The each way play returned a lot of the stake so not too much damage done in the end. Result 2nd 9/2, 4/1 adv….7/2F SP.

0.5pt e/way Warsong (106) – The selection improved one length per mile on his most recent effort, so it was a fine performance on the clock at the weights. He had a lovely run through on the inside, tracking the pace, and found for pressure at the finish. The winner No Retreat (107) recorded a time three lengths per mile faster than his career best. He challenged down the centre of the track, away from our pick, and this was to his advantage, as we know he can be worried out of things at the finish. It will be interesting to see if he can progress from this. Result 2nd 11/2 adv…7/2f SP.

Today’s Advice

MAESTRO (7F PA Hcap) – The (10.00) Jebel Ali looks competitive on the clock with those at the head of the market recording similar efforts recently. The selection is one of those that have been badly drawn in his last two races on dirt, and he holds one of the joint favourites Haddaf Al Wathba on their meeting at Al Ain last November. His performance last time out at Sharjah from stall twelve can be upgraded as he was forced to race three and four wide most of the way, and still managed to finish close up in third place over the extended mile in a decent time for the grade. Interestingly, he was won a trial over four furlongs at today’s venue (five days before that race) in the fastest of three Arabian races on the day. A low draw on the straight track has been an advantage lately with African Candy, Maputo and Classic City winning three of the last four races from stalls two, one and two respectively up the straight seven furlongs. Danny Tudhope takes the ride, having won on him at Al Ain last November, and he looks a bit of value compared to those ahead of him in the market who have enjoyed advantageous draws lately.
