Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Azzouz (43) – I was right to take on the favourite from stall eleven, unfortunately I landed on the wrong formline. I was worried about the quick turnaround for the selection, but I should have been more worried about his tendencies to blow the start (which he did once again).
0.75pt e/way Naayif (48) – This wasn’t a reproduction of his effort from Sharjah, and it looks like my worries about the quick turnaround were correct here. The annoying thing about landing on this formline was that the next best on the clock was the winner Haddaf Al Wathba (56).
0.5pt e/way Haasim (107) – The selection’s consistency was rewarded here where the pace was just strong enough for him to stay on strongly from the rear to wear down the prominent racing runner-up Warsong (105). Result 1st 11/2, 9/2 adv…4/1F SP.
0.75pt e/way Queen Azteca (101) – The selection looked the value option with which to take on the favourite from with a better draw in stall one this time. However, when she was held up near last early on, I was not feeling very confident at all. Fortunately, the pace was too strong up front with the favourite eventually finishing last, as the winner passed the entire field on the way to an eight length victory. It will be interesting to see if future races can fall into her lap so easily. Result 1st 7/1 adv….17/2 SP.
Today’s Advice
Jahoori (8f Cns) – The (11.45) Jebel Ali looks a tight conditions race going by handicap ratings with Dolayli and Embesto leading the way at 109. The selection is rated a mere 92 by the handicapper, but his second place effort behind Musical Dancer just after Christmas was the only race on the round course that was faster than standard that day with the winner recording a (114) speed figure. That was over the nine and a half furlong trip, and the selection has winning form over today’s distance at Abu Dhabi. His effort that day is the current best at the track from today’s contestants, and with a kind draw in stall three he might just be able to outrun his rating this morning. He looks a bit of value in the market at his current price. Silvestre De Sousa is on board again, and the trainer/jockey combination is fresh from a treble at Meydan yesterday.
Dubai Welcome (9f Hcap) – The selection showed his first piece of current form when winning over the extended nine furlong trip at this venue last time out finishing a length and a quarter ahead of Arabian Tale. On that occasion he received 12lbs from that rival, and made use of a better draw in stall two when travelling well over three furlongs out before quickening into the lead two furlongs out. He receives just nine pounds today from that rival in this morning’s (12.45) Jebel Ali, and it will be a lot closer at today’s weights, but there looks to be too big a gap at the prices on offer for the son of Dubawi. Three pound apprentice Qais Bin Saif Al Busaidi is on board again, and he has shown his capabilities this season with three wins on the board already. Waqet won impressively last time out with the tongue tie back on, and it will be interesting to see if he can reproduce that effort.
Back Tomorrow (6f 20y Hcap) – The correct contestants look to be at the front of the market for tonight’s (8.00) Wolverhampton. Short price favourite Autumn Angel has really woken up lately at tonight’s venue with two wins and two places, and last time out over course and distance won nicely from stall twelve by two lengths from Jesse Luc. If she turns up in the same mood she will be hard to beat, although regular pilot Jack Doughty has been replaced by seven pound apprentice Molly Gunn. The selection also won nicely last time out over course and distance when scooting clear in the home straight by one and a half lengths with one of tonight’s main rivals Red Walls back in fourth. At the prices on offer I will side with the Ewan Whiilans mare, from the better draw in stall two.
