Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Station X (94) – Showers changed the going to Heavy (4.7) on the going stick, and few of the contestants enjoyed the conditions. The selection coped best with them, and he had no problem with the step up to six furlongs. He raced prominently, and travelled best of the field despite hanging right at the business end of the race. Jockey Sean Bowen, who is chasing the Champion Apprentice title, kept the horse going forward in the closing stages to win by a length. Result 1st 16/1 adv…14/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

Jachin (7f 6y Maiden) – It has been an excellent first full year as a trainer for Craig Lidster with twenty seven winners on the Flat in 2024. He has shown very quickly that he can get the job done with Ayr Silver Cup winner Alfa Kellenic, The Bell Conductor, and Alfa Whiteburd some of the more notable winners. This two-year-old son of Kodi Bear recorded the top speed figure (102) of today’s contestants on a similar surface to today’s Soft (Heavy) going at Redcar two weeks ago. Despite receiving a bump at the start he still managed to hit the frame behind a very impressive William Haggas winner in Binhareer (106). As the most experienced horse in today’s (2.05) Catterick, and with the highest Racing Post Rating, he looks the right price for a sporting interest.

Tiffany (11f 133y Gp1) – This Sir Mark Prescott trained four-year-old has been a model of consistency with seven wins from her last nine races in the UK and Germany. Conditions for today’s (2.35) Ascot have been advertised as Soft with 4.5mm of rain overnight, and that should suit Luke Morris’ mount who holds one of the top speed figures (114) when finishing behind one of today’s rivals Queen Of The Pride at Haydock on a faster than ideal surface back in July. Listed and Group 2 victories at Baden Baden with plenty of cut in the ground have seen this daughter of Affinity at her best this season, and she looks worth a sporting play at her current odds.

Three Dons (12f 13y Hcap) – The drop back to twelve furlongs for today’s (2.42) Catterick should suit this Tony Carroll trained five-year-old following an excellent performance over fourteen furlongs at Haydock recently when selected by this column. A career best (109) speed figure at Ffod Las on Heavy going over today’s distance back in August showed that he can still win races from his current handicap mark. It is interesting that he has plenty of form at switchback tracks like Brighton and Lingfield which should hold him in good stead at today’s track.

Vintage Clarets (5f Hcap) – It has taken a while for this former Group 2 placed five-year-old to find his from this season with a win and a second place finish most recently at Chester and Ascot. He returns to the scene of last year’s win in this race off a one pound lower handicap mark, and everything looks in place for another solid performance in today’s (4.45) Catterick. He has been well found by the market, but with so many boxes ticked he warrants a small win interest.

Apache Canyon (8f 142y Hcap) – This lightly raced three-year-old should appreciate the drop back in trip for today’s (5.30) Wolverhampton following a solid performance behind Renesmee over the extended nine furlongs at this venue. With just six career runs to his name and a profile showing increasing figures on the clock, he looks worth supporting from a decent draw in stall five for today’s contest. In a race where plenty of his dangers are drawn wide, it is hoped that a smoother trip could make all the difference for Darragh Keenan’s mount.
