0.75pt e/way Weleyff (98) – A race not run to suit the selection who raced keenly in rear and was denied a clear run through on many occasions. He came home in 4th place beaten 2.5 lengths and will be well worth another chance. Result 4th 4/1 adv...4/1 SP.

 

1pt e/way Rousing Encore (108) – The selection was held up in rear on the near side and made good headway to lead his group over a furlong from home. He easily won the race on his side but was a half length down on the winner who raced far side. A fine effort and there should be a race there for him this Autumn. Result 2nd 11/1 adv…9/1 SP.

 

0.75pt e/way Send Harry (103) – A return to form for the selection who raced prominently and just failed to reel in the long time leader following a battle over the final furlong and a half. His turn looks very close now. Result 2nd 11/2 adv…100/30f SP.

 

Today’s Advice

REDORANGE (5f Gp3) – The (1.02) Newbury looks to revolve around short priced favourite Starlust and whether he can back up his latest fourth place finish in the Group 1 Flying Five at the Curragh from six days ago. At the prices I will give the Clive Cox trained four-year-old a chance to show that he is well capable of landing a Group 3 contest having taken a Listed event at York two runs back.

Thought good enough to contest the Nunthorpe he looked to be coming with a decent finish when his jockey PJ McDonald was badly hampered and was almost stopped to a walk. He eventually came home in 11th place under the welter burden of 10st 1lb. A keen going type he should appreciate the pace set by front-runners Miss Yechance and Diligent Harry. He looks to be one of the contestants that is in the best recent form and should run his race.

 

ARAPAHO GOLD (6f Group 2) – This star two-year-old looks to have the (2.12) Newbury at his mercy considering his main rival on the clock Nabati is back out quick enough after a third place finish in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster 8 days ago. He does have a 3lb penalty to carry for his Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes victory. Connections of the second favourite will fancy their chances considering there was only a neck between them in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes back in July but the selection encountered all sorts of trouble during that contest and has massively improved since then.

Last time out he was mightily impressive when taking the Group 2 Gimcrack by three quarters of a length from Final Objective who has franked the form since in the Flying Childers. We will be looking for front runner Matteo to provide a bit of pace to aim at and bar any accidents the favourite should be getting the job done here once again and maintain his unbeaten run.

 

CHERRY COBBLER (7f Hcap) – This four-year-old has put in three big timefigures over 7f in his last three visits to the Newmarket July course. Last time out he raced keenly alongside Dashing Dick and was just worried out of the win having taken up the running over a furlong from home. That was a quick five-day turnaround from his 6 length demolition of Norcross Bow, and the way he travelled would indicate that there is plenty more to come. The handicapper has only put him up 2lb for his latest performance and judging by his (109) timefigure from the 15th August he looks a few steps ahead of the handicapper.

Seven pound apprentice Chloe Lyons has built up a solid partnership with the son of Zoustar and she has had plenty of success recently with four wins from her last 10 rides. The combination look worth an interest at the prices to continue their excellent run of form.

 

FINE INTERVIEW (6f Hcap) – The (3.40) Ayr Gold Cup sees a maximum field of 25 contestants go to post, and as one can imagine, it looks a fiercely competitive renewal. With the advertised going described as Soft, and the chance of some showers during the day, it may pay to side with those who have shown their best form when conditions are on the testing side.

The selection falls into that category having put up a career best (111) timefigure last October over 6f at Doncaster on a Soft (Heavy in places) surface. He had shown the time previously that he is not just a one dimensional plough horse when recording a (109) timefigure at Pontefract when the ground was described as Soft (Good to Soft in places) under the welter burden of 9st 12lb. He has been lightly raced this season with today’s prize in mind and finished an encouraging 7th place beaten just 2 lengths last time out over 6f at York when returning to the track following a 77 day break. Usually held up in his run there should be plenty of pace for him to aim at and it should be noted that he is rated just 5lb above his last winning mark when cruising home by a length from Akkadian Thunder over 6f at Doncaster back in March.

James Doyle has chosen the son of Havana Grey over Stewards Cup winner Evening Saigon and it looks like he has made the right decision this time judging by the clock. The front of the market does look competitive with favourite Binhareer and Far Above Dream boasting solid form but the way the ground was riding yesterday I am hoping the selection’s preference for softer conditions may swing things his way.

 

JANNAS JOURNEY (7f 50y Hcap) – It has taken the selection a good few runs to hit top form this season and it looks like her shrewd trainer Jim Goldie has had the (4.50) Ayr in mind for this five-year-old mare for some time. Last time out he ran her over the stiff 6f trip at Hamilton, which would have been too short for her, but she still managed a fine keeping on third place finish beaten just a half length. A former course and distance winner she should appreciate today’s condtions and the step back up in trip to her favourite distance.

Rated just 3lb above her last winning mark, when successful at Carlisle back in July over the extended 7f, conditions look to be ideal today racing from stall 5 and with regular star apprentice Lauren Young taken 5lb off her back. There should be plenty of pace to aim at with stablemate Dwindling Funds, Son and Gweedore in opposition.
