1.5pts win Bomb Squad (98) – A slowly run race by four and half lengths to the two furlong pole, by my adjusted calculations, which suited those racing prominently. The first five home occupied five of the first six positions two furlongs from home, and the selection benefitted from taking up a lovely position tracking the pace before taking up the running inside the final furlong. He shouldn’t go up too much in the weights for this, and another win looks likely if the right race can be found for him. Result 1st 11/4 adv…11/4F SP.

Darlo Pride (5f 21y Hcap) – This Michael Dods trained four-year-old had been in the wilderness for quite a while before winning at Newcastle this month over the minimum trip. He hadn’t found the winner’s enclosure in twelve races since his victory over course and distance in February from Jacquelina. Connections switched from the tongue tie and visor to the tongue tie and blinkers for his latest win from Master Of My Fate, which he has worn in the past, and are sticking with the winning combination. While it may look like the handicapper is now in charge from a mark three pounds above his last winning one, he has recorded some big numbers in the past despite not getting his head in front as much as he should have. He is the type that needs headgear to get him to put his best foot in front, and a small interest from a kind draw in stall two looks the play, on what looks like a difficult enough day.
