Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Antiquity (91) – A lot of the analysis proved correct with the Zarathos (97) formline finishing a neck behind the winner Harswell Ruby (98), who I had mentioned as being well treated, and the Private Island form looking one to oppose. Unfortunately, the selection couldn’t reproduce his recent form, and looked to have an off day, beaten six and a half lengths in sixth place.
Today’s Advice
GREEN VALENTINE & CATHERINE CHROI (5f Hcap) – Navan has had 16mm of rain since yesterday, and the going is now Soft at the track. A lot of the contestants for today’s (1.40) would have preferred a sounder surface, and it may be worthwhile having a look for those that have decent form on a softer surface. Green Valentine looks like one such candidate with her two best efforts under similar conditions. She is a lightly raced type who showed her first piece of form on Soft going at Tipperary when coming home four and a half lengths fourth behind Stayaround Susie over the minimum trip early last season. A solid second place finish behind Run Forrest Run over six furlongs, on Good to Yielding, showed that she can be competitive from her current handicap mark. A quick return to the track four days later didn’t play to her strengths, and although this is her seasonal debut, she looks worth a small interest at the prices on offer.
Catherine Chroi looks the solid one with plenty of Soft ground form in the bag, and currently racing off a mark three pounds below her last winning mark. She has been in decent enough form for her new trainer Ms Claire O’Connell, and a recent second place finish on Soft to Heavy ground at Naas behind runaway winner Noble Nation reads well in the context of today’s race.
DANDY DINMONT (5f 3y Hcap) – This six-year-old has returned to the Flat this season in fine form with two placed efforts at Doncaster and Pontefract. He kept on well from the rear on seasonal debut at Doncaster behind Thunder Star going down by a length and a quarter over five furlongs. Another solid effort was put on the board twelve days ago over the minimum trip at Pontefract when finishing in third place by the same distance behind Keldeo. On that occasion he raced a little bit keenly in behind the leaders, and made good headway over two furlongs from home before being switched outside to run on well at the finish. The handicapper has left him unchanged in the handicap ratings for tonight’s (7.30) Doncaster, and he is still four pounds below his winning course and distance mark from last July.
Faye McManoman knows him well having won three races on him so far, and as a hold up performer the more pace on the better for him. There appears to be plenty of pace on for tonight’s contest with prominent racers Betweenthesticks, Toptime, and Honour Your Dreams in opposition. Everything looks in place for another bold show providing he can back up his latest effort from twelve days ago.
